Default Derby Time!

Time for a on the lighter side post. This is my son, Dane's, Pinewood Derby car. Derby is Saturday. I tried to get him to name it No Substitute, but no dice. Behold Silver Lining!

Now that the car, and the two others for his brothers are done, Dad needs a beer! Dales Pale Ale coming my way.

Too late for me to pass on some winning techniques! Best of luck!

Never too early to plan for next year. Would love to hear your techniques.

That's fantastic! Were you able to shape that from the original block?

How'd it run?

We had to add a block on top and then drill the crap out of the bottom to make weight. We finished in the middle of the pack. When they were announcing the cars at the start, the announcer called it a muscle car which was a little disappointing. We had a great time fabricating it though.

Clearly that announcer wasn't a true car guy. I would have been disappointed too. Great looking car!

Polish the axles (nails) and make it a 3 wheeler with one of the front axles inserted a little higher so that it sits on 3 wheels instead of all 4! Enjoy these years, they will be distant memories before you blink! Good luck, have fun, win or lose!

Thanks for the tip, Rob. I haven't quite mastered axle insertion to get the three wheel outcome.

Dad might have had a slight hand in car preparation.

Thanks!
