The car is parked at collision / auto body place...
I'd defenitly want to know why it was there if I were the potential buyer.

You are correct in that the purpose a turbo timer plays is to help cool down the car without you needing to sit there with the car. Typically this is done to help preserve the turbos/oil after hard runs.
it seems good as its is recommended to run the engine for a few minutes after hard drive to dissipate excess heat in the engine components🤔

having ppi done thursday at cantrell motorsports. the shop in lakewood won't be finished replacing lifters till tuesday. here's the invoice just sent to me. Im super stoked cause I think it's gonna be a great deal. I'm driving to his place thursday morning and he's letting me drive it to Bellevue (about 60 miles) for the ppi. if all checks out then I'll write him a check.

Holy cow, $6K in. Doubt he's going to budge on price now. Still a good deal though for a X50! Congrats hopefully, keep us updated!

Don't over analyze it. Buy it before someone else does.

Im not going to be surprised if that misfire is still there after all of this work.

Those are the same codes and symptoms from variocam solenoid failure. Hope they tried that before tearing that deep into it. When I had that problem, I saw a few threads with things like this, even a couple of people having full engine rebuilds.... Simple fix....

Are you guys serious? This is not a good deal. You'll be buying someone else's problem. The car got diagnosed with "bad lifters" last Wednesday and they say it will be ready for a ppi on Thursday after a $6k rebuild? That diagnosis is a joke. The invoice said they're dropping the engine and maybe replacing parts? They don't have a clue what they're doing. They're throwing parts at a check engine light. It's probably a $20 broken actuator bracket or something just as simple. I would stay far away from this car and that shop. Luckily for you it probably won't pass a ppi.
It's cliche but the cheapest Porsche you buy will be the most expensive. There's a reason it's being sold $10k below value, and it's not because his wife is having a baby.

Looking at that parts list, they are replacing the variocam timing actuators (PN# 99610530371). Not the variocam lift actuators (these would be PN# 99610530172). The variocam timing actuators are on top of the cylinder heads, the lift actuators are in the spark plug valley.

The fault specifically calls out valve lift...oh boy. doesn't seem like this shop knows what is going on. If you get it, good thing you have a 2nd 996TT to pull parts from to replace the issues this one may have

I'm not saying not to get it, just hope you know how to/like to work on these cars.

Yes I don't have much faith in this shop either. the dude had an extended warranty and could have taken it anywhere but he's been taking it to this shop cause it's close. so in theory if they replaced the wrong parts wouldn't the car just throw codes once it's was put back together??? Or would it run beautifully, pass a thorough ppi from cantrell, then once I purchased it start falling apart.

from the sounds of it, the car may be getting an expensive service and having those parts as long as done correctly, will be nice to have new parts in there. Then you can get a great deal on it and pay very little to have a cheap proper fix for it from Cantrell. Or, maybe we're just not giving the shop enough credit and it'll be addressed properly as well. Good luck on it though! It's a great car if it passes through the PPI!
