Hey all,

I'm toying with the idea of trading in my '03 C2 for an '01 TT.

Saw this car for sale locally. I'm very familiar with 996 NA prices, but not TT prices.

Dealer's asking 43K for this one. 2001 with 55K miles.

What do you think of this car?

It's a Tip, which is fine with me.

I will sell you mine for the same price and 37000 miles on the clock. All preventative maintenance done. The beauty of the one at the dealer, however, is the color. White is rare. Mine is Arctic Silver under the wrap. I am in South OC.

does the rear spoiler work? It is a common problem with the hydro. I noticed in all of the pictures it was up. I am not sure if its turned off because of the Banana wing clearance. But I would check.

Thanks for the reply, guys. Yeah, I was thinking it's about a 38 to 40K car too, so you all pretty much confirmed that. Regarding the rear spoiler... definitely I will look at that, but I assume that the dealer put it up for the photos, which is common.

Sponger, no prob on the hijack... hmmm... very tempting.... looks like a great deal!!! But the white is what really grabbed my attention.

When I looked at the car a couple days ago, the dealership was closed. But, the car looked extremely clean. I plan to go back in the next couple days and check it out in greater detail. Also, I want to see if he will take my C2 as a trade-in.

I'm very familiar with the differences between MK1 and MK2N/A 996's, but not with TTs. Is there anything about the '01 that I would regret, if I don't hold out for an MK2?

Some like to think the 2001 TTs do not have the updated stiffer chassis of the 2002-05 models but this has been proven false through parts numbers. All 996TTs have the same chassis part numbers, no matter what the year.

Also if you look the suspension parts and spring rates they are also the same no matter what the year. If Porsche had changed the chassis from 2001 to 2002 they would have revised the suspension as well to work better with the new stiffness. They didn't change the suspension because the chassis are the same.

Other than the second generation having a glove box and a slightly modified B pillar to hold revised seat belt tensioners there is not much difference. Others may know more details.

Totally understand. White was my first choice as well. My lack of patience, and good deal, landed me with silver. Then I wrapped it black so who knows what I want haha.

I would also check the radiators and make sure they are not leaking! After you test drive it sniff around the front grill.

At the risk of hijacking the thread, I have an 04 TT Cabriolet with a tip for sale in the classifieds. 42,000 miles. I am looking for high 40s. It is perfect. Arctic silver but the interior is natural gray, alsmost black with gray rugs. really sharp.

$110 MSRP, low option car. I don't like the wing or the wheels. White is nice. Get a ppi, make an offer.

^^^ Good comments. In fact, those were a few items I was wondering about: How heavily optioned is this car, and what do you guys things of the wheels and wing? Other opinions on those items?

Of course, any offer will be contingent on a PPI. A good Porsche Indy mechanic is just down the road from them a few blocks, I've had him do PPIs for me in the past.

It is a good looking car. White is rare. I just do not see many white ones come up for sale.

Can't help with the price. Part of me thinks it is a bit below what I would have guessed would the price but it is a 2001 -- 13 years old -- and a Tip. Not that I am against a Tip they have their place that's for sure but most shoppers seem to prefer a manual which drives Tip equipped car prices down.

Be sure you give the car a through test. Start with a test ride then follow with a test drive. 15 mile route and be sure the route allows the test driver to demo the car that way you intend to use it, within reason of course.

Back at the starting point you take the car out and drive over the same route, drive the car the same way.

If after the above you still like the car test everything. You already know about the spoiler can act up and can be pricey to fix with a new unit.

But a non-functioning headlight can be a $1000 (roughly dealer price) igniter/starter or it can be just a $100 light bulb. It could also be a light switch or even an ignition switch.

If the car passes your used car check out then get a PPI.

I will probably be in the minority but are you sure you want to get rid of your current car?

You have an 03 and in a nice color and you know the car how it has been serviced and used. You know I'm sure you will take a depreciation hit on your current car.

While the Turbo has some draw it is an expensive car, compared to your C2, to run. Everything about the Turbo costs more. While you can save money if you DIY you will still pay more out than if you just kept your C2.
