Default 996T STOLEN!!!

Boys,

My baby, Heidi (2002 996T), was stolen yesterday. It was only 40K miles young.

She was stolen from the LA Fitness Parking lot in the Westfield Mall in Trumbull, CT on 3/16/14 between 1-3pm. If anyone sees it please report to the police. Here is what she looks like.

Are there any security cameras? I would think the thief is someone you've seen before. They been watching you and knew where you were keeping the key. Hopefully they catch them and the Police put some effort into it.

I'd be raising holy hell with LA Fitness about someone being able to break into all the lockers - someone must have a master key.

No surveillance cameras in LA Fitness ? I would think someone had some cameras somewhere and likely in the parking lot. So they break into your locker, and others as well, and find your key. So they go outside and see the Porsche in the lot and just jump in, start it and drive off ? Something doesn't smell right, sounds like an inside job like an employee who knew who was at the gym, what they drove, etc. Have you contacted the mall security to see if they have video of the parking lot ? it's times like this you wish you had a Lojack on the car. I sure hope you get it back and in good shape.

+1. Probably broke into the other lockers to cover up what the person or persons were really looking for, your keys.

Hope you get it back and intact soon.

So aren't there devices/services like TattleTale that would help in a situation like this if it were installed prior to theft?

still no luck... i do not think i was targeted for a long time bec last sunday was the first time in 3 weeks i have been to that la fitness. Not sure what "tattletale" is? But that does bring up a good point. Is there a tracking device that all Porsche's have? Like if i go to the Porsche Dealership... can i give them my vin number and will they be able to locate? i dunno... boys what else do u think i can do? the rims and tale made the car a bit diferent than other 996s. I wonder if he is going to sell to a chop shop...anyone know of chop shop for porsche parts?

Very sorry to hear of your loss. I have had several vehicles stolen. It sucks royally. Hopefully at least your insurance company will be fair. My fitness center has signs posted to not leave keys, wallets, etc. in the lockers and that they are not responsible for any losses. Not sure if that's legal, to absolve themselves from liability like that.

Sorry to hear that. I had a truck broken into at LA Fitness in Dallas. They broke in because they saw something on the back seat - my son's baseball bag. Nice, ey? Our LAF had 6 security cameras in the front. But guess what? Not good enough resolution to pick up the license plate of the car that parked next to mine that the thief. Got out of. But it was good enough to see the fat bastard get out and broke the window.
I also left my wallet in the truck and he found it. It was also in the back seat, in the storage comp behind the front seat. Not a particularly great place, I admit. I had taken to leave it in the truck because lockers had been hit multiple times in the last year. There, and most clubs policy is no security cameras inside clubs esp locker rooms for obvious reasons of privacy.
I filed a police report and learned from the police it's not just LA Fitness but many clubs in Dallas at least have this issue, simply because thiefs realize this is one of the very few places people get separated from their keys and wallet during the day. They also know people are scared to use the lockers and lots of wallets are in cars. The reason they picked mine was undoubtedly because of where I was parked and because I had a bag showing. Two lessons there, true anywhere, but at a fitness club, WAY more important.
I agree with poster he wasn't singled out I doubt. Did the key chain have Porsche on it?

Final thought. Best place to leave your stuff at the club? Most places have those wall /wallet lockers that are in view of the workout equipment. I use those and according to the manager, they have never been hit.
