Default What's missing here?

I got home from a drive yesterday and was showing someone the engine compartment when I noticed this clean, threaded stalk with nothing attached (by the Pentocin fill cap). What is supposed to be here, can I safely drive it to Porsche to get the missing part, did I have sustain any damage/fluid leakage with the piece missing?

Thanks in advance!

You're missing the rubber cap.

I'd say if it leaked there would be fluid all over the place...my guess...and I do mean guess, is this is a valve that you can attach a tool to purge/fill (pressurized) the system.

Thank you both. There's no evidence of a fluid leak, happily. I went to Porsche to order the cap today. They don't list it as a separate part...I'd have to order the entire power steering pump!?! Guess I'll try Parts Heaven.

No don't do that...it is just a soft rubber cap (probably to protect the threads)...just get something at the hardware store.

Thanks, Statman. I was actually able to stretch a plastic valve stem cover on it (doesn't quite fit, but it's free).

Now what's missing if that whole part's gone, not just the cap but the whole aluminium threaded "pipe" ???

Is ist just a breather pipe or is there some kind of check valve inside? I was there when I added oil at track on Saturday morning, but gone when arriving home in the evening... Of course there's spilled Pentosin here, there and everywhere.

Just put a rubber hose where the cap goes to the ground below the engine

You probably got the pump hot and it popped off

It's just a overflow....cups are that way

Thanks Izzone! I first just have to find a short pipe and install it for the hose... Yes, the engine -and also the pump- got hot, it was a +32C day and I did three 10 lap sets of 3 km each in less than 2 hours. Engine compt cooling fan was running almost continuously.

Thanks for the tip!! It isn't missing anymore. A friend of mine -who happens to own a machine shop- made me the pipe and I installed the hose.
