CTR = Carrera Turbo R

Actually I'm not really sure which would be the correct forum for this creation of mine, but while it shares a great deal of parts from 996 GT2/3(/turbo/Cup) this could be a proper place to be.

One upon a time it was an aerokitted 996, MY '00. Then it got some stuff, in and out and now it is what it is.

Specs in next posting, now just some pics.

Pete - Incredible build.

How hard was it to get the 997 underbody pannels to fit on the 996? I've thought about that many times after seeing how much better the coverage is on the 997 under body.

Thanks!

It's not that difficult in the end. Minor cutting on the edges close to front and rear lifting points and then 5 mounting points per side needs to be added. Rivnuts & bolts or OEM Porsche "rivbolts", which are riveted in and look like those threaded tabs where all panes are attached with plastic nuts. Threads about this can be found either here or 6SOL.

Looks great Pete! What Lexan rear windows are you using? No need for security straps? What's the thickness? I was thinking of installing the 997GT3RS 4.0 Euro rear OEM lexan window but I'm not 100% sure if the 996/997 rear window is interchangeable. I'm thinking it is but don't have a confirmation. Thx

Pete, thanks for sharing, an amazing build and must have been (ongoing) great fun building that beast.
I love the air intakes on the rear wings do they have any specific channelling onto the intercooler cores ? Would love a pic looking into the opening ?

I researched this as well-- if it doesn't fit it is really close. I saw a lexan rear from a 997 cup in the classifieds and was thinking could test with that, but decided to focus on the wheels/brakes/suspension instead. Compared my car with a friend's 997 side by side and can't tell any difference in dimensions as far as what is visible.

I'm sure you already know this, but I wouldnt run without straps with USA track rules-- Pete's windows are raised in all the pics so I imagine he's fine because of that; I've read a few threads in my research where guys in Europe with the OE lexan windows have their rear blow out on the road when going high speed with the windows open.

I've got an idea for some straps that are both functional and look a bit nicer than the sheet metal and screws I usually see. Function over form always, but I notice the lexan rear engine cover on 360 Challenge Stradale that lives in the same warehouse as my car, it has 2 carbon straps for bracing with countersunk allen bolts... Functions the same, but looks less Home Depot than some of the cars I see.

That is why I was inquiring into using the OEM street 7GT3 4.0 lexan window. If is it used on a factory street car than it has passed all safety tests including blowing out at top speed with the windows down. No way the car the car be certified other wise..

Thanks for the compliments!

Toby, there's channels to ICs, biggest that could be built to still basically narrowbodied car. There's a body seam with high tensile strenght (whatever) steel which can't be cut (=is not wise to cut unless one knows how to maintain body's strength), so that limits size of the duct. Try to post a pic later.

John, rear windows are from Plastics 4 Performance (UK), OEM size and thickness (3mm). Installed with provided PU adhesive and OEM frame & rubber gasket. We have here the luxury of driving windows closed at tracks and I have tested them up to 280kmh. I definitely will not do that windows open! I think P4P will tell if 6 and 7 windows are of same size, I do believe they are.

Thanks Pete! I looked at P4P a while back. They offer the windows in 3, 4, and 5mm thicknesses. I was thinking of getting the 4mm thick ones as they would be more rigid than the 3mm with only a minor weight penalty. The 4mm rear may not need additional bracing but who knows? If I can verify my 996/997 rear glass is the same then I will go with the OEM Euro RS rear lexan for peace of mind and perfect fit.

I thought the same thing, but then heard some stories. Not sure if it is common or not, but it is a possibility. Perhaps not tested at speed with windows down during certification?

OEM windows installed from factory in euro-spec car, more than one mentioned here...

Not to detract from the awesome build.
Is the lexan rear screen for street same as a Cup car ?
If so - i can assure you it WONT fly out if correct adhesive is used.
