Default When did the last 996 roll off the line?

EDIT:

Inspired by the other thread "Earliest production dates", I'm reviving this one and ask the community: who's got the newest 996?

If you own a MY05 996, post your production date here!

----------------------------
My ‘05 C4S was built in July 2004 and is one of 728 manufactured that model year.

That got me wondering: when was 996 production completely shut down? The Essential Companion is silent on this.

The Porsche 996 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 model manufactured with first model year 1998 and last 2004. It was replaced by the Type 997 in model year 2005. The 996 had little in common with its predecessor, with the first new chassis platform since the original 911 and a new water-cooled engine.

My build date is July 98 and the car sold as a 1999 996.
So a 996 could have a build date in 2004 (as yours) and sold as a 2005 MY.
I take it that the last 996 build date was December of 2004, sold as a 2005. Then January 2005 Porsche began with the 997 builds.

DB, that's not entirely correct. The chart above shows the MY 05 996s that overlapped with the first 997s. Basically all the special forms got an extra year, but in small numbers.

gnat is correct; in 2005 all C4S and TT were 996's while the base C2's were 997's.

I was not trying to be definitive, just passing along some information. I concur....there was some overlap. Trying to figure out Porsche is like trying to establish the exact date they went from a dual row IMSB to a single row in the production line, and what the last engine number was that had the dual row. This one should really just die......so cars manufactured in 2004 we sold as 2005's, and then all further 996's manufactured in 2005 were sold as 2005's and none manufactured in 2005 could possibly be sold as 2006's? See my point? The reason the Essential Companion is silent on this point is that no one knows exactly...except some production manager at Porsche.

I knew about the split production between 996s and 997s in 2005 but I thought I'd ask about the actual end of production for the 996 series. It was a long shot.

I suppose the last 996 produced could be tucked away in a Porsche museum somewhere. My inquiry really stemmed from curiosity: how close could my C4S be from being the very last 996 produced... even if it's really meaningless, it would be cool to know. Similar to that other thread that evolved into a discussion about who owns the earliest 996.

The rare cars are the 05 997's that still have the full 996 interior! I've fitted engines to a couple of these cars. 997 on the outside, 996 on the inside.

Cool! Had no idea! Will keep on the lookout for one of those. Would be interesting to see the build dates for one of these.

mine was produced in July of 2004, warranty start date listed as 11/15/04

but the owner's manuals in the glovebox say 2005 Porsche 911 on the cover... and the manuals are for a 997.... nothing matches to the 996 that the manuals were delivered in.

I wonder if they are sequential and model specific, i.e. yours would be 61 of 728 and mine would be 195 of 728... but that would be too simple woudn't it

I seem to recall seeing a photo of the first 996s on the production line at the same time as 993s...or am I imagining things?
