Someone hit my 996
So I come out to my car which is parked in a parking lot to see that the front passenger side fender has a pretty big dent in it. I filed a report with a police, but they didn't do much other than give me a report number to use with my insurance, but honestly I don't want to go through my insurance, because I don't want them to carfax the car with an accident. I was thinking just buying a fender from somewhere, hopefully in the same black as my car, or even an unpainted one and replacing it myself. But upon looking on the interwebs I can't really find any fenders. Do you guys have any suggestions on to what I should do, or where to find fenders. Anything Would be helpful. Thanks in advanced

Cue Macster's Celette Bench post...
OP, it also looks like your headlight is damaged, and that looks like a Litronic...if so, you've already blown past your deductible...
Regardless of what you decide to do, sorry your car got hit. That sucks.

I've had that happen to me and it sucks! Here's a fender for you $250 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-996-...Make%3APorsche

THIS --> better to repair the damage instead of replacing - good shop can do it no problem and shouldn't be that expensive because blending color is kept to a minimum amount of surface - a lot cheaper than fender replacement/repaint blending paint to hood and door. pay cash no carfax issues

Whoever did that is a scumbag. Sorry for your misfortune (this has happened to me before not in 996) and yes I would think a body shop could take care of the dent/blend but to 5chnell's point I will bet the light is damaged and could start collecting condensation. No cheap date to replace.

Realistically, "fixing" (i.e. - dent removal/repair) it would be a mistake - it'll never look right, as the steel has been stretched. Could a good body guy make it look close/good? Sure, but it would probably take a long time...anyone worth their weight is going to recommend a new quarter panel or "wing" as it's known in Porsche nomenclature http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p...section=801-40 . It's only a $600+ part, then you've got paint and labor - the price is going to be anywhere from $1800 - $2400 depending on the shop. If it were me, I'd pay my deductible and let my insurance do it's job (that's what you're paying for). ** I had this almost exact damage (no damage to Litronic light) and this was my path back to happiness. I hope it works out for you.

A guy backed his truck into my 996's driver-side rear fender a couple of years back - one of my employees detained him, although it seems like he was planning to stick around and figure out who owned the car.
I let his insurance deal with it - even though it will show up on Carfax, I prefer that to - in the unlikely event I ever sell the car - having to explain why a panel doesn't match the rest of the car when there's no history of a repair. *shrug* Ultimately, you get to handle it however you like. Still bummed for you - it sucks to take care of something so well for so long and have some a55hat wander along and screw it up for you.

A good body shop can repair it like it never happened. Get an estimate and then decide if you want to go through your insurance.

Ouch. I watched a guy back into my 964, yelling at him the whole time to stop. He gets out, calls his boss, tells him that he just backed into the Porsche they were just admiring. Laughing the whole time. I could have killed the idiot.

Black is the easiest to colour match. See if you can find a good used black fender and just replace it. Or just find a used fender and have it painted, then install it. This is a very easy fix. If you want a shop to fix the existing one, it will be way more expensive than replacing it. As for Carfax, keep the old fender and take pics. Most car, his old have some sort of a parking lot damage repair already. Won't make a difference in the value anyways.
