04 hardtop on a 01 cab?
So just purchased my first pcar last night and found a 04 hardtop. Everything I have read says it will fit but the owner said the top has speakers in it. Will these work with my car? I dont see any type of connection for speakers? Thanks

Those probably aren't speakers, they are the covers of the brackets.
Your car should have the twist lock receivers. That top might have the threaded pins, or the second generation of twist lock pins (shorter, but still terrible). You may need to buy new hardware to get that top to mount.
Also, if there are wires visible it is probably for the rear window defroster.

I attached a TSB containing part numbers for the newer, threaded hardtop locking mechanism.
During my own hardtop misadventures, I have collected just about every TSB on the subject of 996 hardtopping, holler if you want more.

Bobby is right - they are covers that look like speaker grills.
If you look at the thread "What do you Cab owners do with your hard tops? " there is a red hard top hanging in a closet, if you look closely you can see what look like speaker grills.
I am pretty sure all Mk I & II 996 hard tops are the same - unless someone made their own mods.
997 hard tops have a lock pin hardware - but otherwise are the same dimensions.

I got my retrofit kit (Part # 000.043.300.46) from Tony Proasi owner of Stuttgart Specialists. He's the dude that works on our 996, and is the president of our local PCA chapter here in the 'Ville. I'm sure your town has an awesome indie shop with a trustworthy, but slightly surly, Porsche mechanic as well.
Also, I have my previous mounting hardware set. It's the kind with the longer twist pins.

Air leak was never the issue with mine. It was a cacophony of rattles.
After moving to the threaded ones, there is less rattle.
I have the TSBs showing the difference between the 1st and 2nd generations of hardtop latches. Also, I have the troubleshooting guide for hardtop noises.
It's too big to attach here. I can send them to you via email if you like.
