Warped rear brake heat or dust shields
I have tracked my 2000 996 a couple of times. The car was great for driver's ed.
My 996's rear brakes make a lot of noise after a hot track day.
Later I found that the rear brakes have a heat or dust shield right next to the inside of the rotors.
The source of the noise was from the warped shields rubbing against the rotors.
I wonder if anybody had this experience? Is it defective parts that I have in my car?

I had a similar problem after my car had been in for service. I assumed that they had inadvertantly bent the shields and just pushed them back a bit. I track my car frequently and have never had any problems with the shields following a DE. If I were you I would just bend the shields back slightly by hand and see if it takes care of your problem. Good luck.

I had a similar experience at the end of my last DE in my '00 996 C2. I could never figure out where the noise was coming from, and the dealer said the brakes were fine. Before my next DE I will be sure to check my shields. Thanks for the heads up. BTW do you have 030 on your 996 or std? Mine does great at DEs with just the std suspension and 18" pilot sports.

DJ, I had my 99 996 C2 on the track in stock form several times and you're right, it is a great track car right out of the box. However, if you like it now you'd love it after bolting on some coil-overs and switching to racing brake pads and a fat set of Hoosiers. The difference is amazing.
