Purely comestics, but does the Boxster S's red brake...
I have a silver 996, and for purely comestic intentions would like to convert the black brake caliper on my C2, to that of the red color standard on the Boxster S.
Does anyone know if it is a direct fit? All the magazines claim that the Boxster S shares the same brake system setup as the 996.
Anyone know the price? (though I will check with the dealership as well).
Thoughts?

FWIW, you can have your calipers professionally painted for less than buying new ones. If that is not an option for you, then the Boxster S calipers will work on your 996.

True, red Box S calipers (whole brake system) are straight from 996 parts bin. Post and see if anyone wants to swap. I personally think there should be someone out there who doesn't like their red ones and would rather have black, like on yellow, silver, blue cars where the red doesn't match well IMO.

I'm not so sure that the brakes are a direct swap. A friend with a Boxter S needed rear pads at a DE event. The factory 996 pads I had in my toolbox were slightly bigger than his. As I recall, I think he was told by the service department that the fronts are the same but the rears are different. I guess it would make sense give the difference in weight distribution.

There are also the red GT3 calipers and rotors if you are interested in a performance as well as a visual upgrade. The rears fit a stock 996, the fronts require installing the beefier front uprights from the GT3. All parts are available from most of the performance oriented aftermarket houses.
