993 Turbo or not

993 Turbo or not
I'm saving my nickels and dimes and I'm trying to decide if a turbo is really "worth" the extra when it relates to driving performance. I guess what I'm asking is the ability of $120-150k for a "stock" turbo or could it be possible to have as much fun driving a NA car for 1/2 the shillings and work on a 3.8upgrade, wheels, suspension, etc.
I love the Turbo, I mean I LOVE the turbo but what really makes sense here.
Thoughts anyone?

Thanks. I was afraid that was the answer. Heck, its only money.
That turbo has a bit of a checkered history of a lot of owners, wreck, needs paint, rebuilt trans. I'm a little far out on the timing, waiting on my house to be finished, buy some jewelry(bribe the bride), then my turbo.

I agree with MSW in that the ONLY way you'll know is to drive both and after that, only you can decide if it's worth the extra $$$.
I've got two turbos but have put significant miles in NA 993s also. For me, the additional power of the turbo is intoxicating and I prefer the looks over the narrow bodied models. That said, I go on a couple of drives a year with lots of NA 993s and there's no question that those guys are having every bit as much fun as I am.

You can also buy a 993 Carrera 4S or 2S same body as the turbo and also cheaper. If later on down the road you want more power you can always twin turbo the engine.

282 vs 408. Drive and decide. The boost is addictive. After +20 years, a Turbo's performance is still very relevant.

different driving experiences... winding out an NA engine for performance and using the gears correctly vs. instant gratification of turbo on boost just above idle in seemingly any gear

The TT (GT1) engine is very different design - lower compression and much stronger crank, rods etc to handle the 400 + HP

Your right about compression, but not sure about the crank and rods. I think the crank and rods can handle 400Hp.

I have both (Carrera 95' euro with few bolt ond and turbo with 450cv package euro 97') and I'm 50/50 as which I would keep as "only 993 or 911". However the Carrera being slower maybe is a tad more fun to drive, feels more connected to the ground and seems like overall experience is more satisfactory but then I love my turbo, the thrust (boost) and looks, although my Carrera looks like a turbo at first sight (WB).
It's a though decision and as some said you would have to drive both , not just stright lanes, but on some corners/twists to see which feels right to you.
