On Board Computer/Dash Display Question
My car is displaying in KM and C on the in dash display. It is a US car that was used in Canada for 3 years.
Is there a way to reset the KM over to MPH (metric) again or does the dealership have to do it or do parts need to be changed/replaced???

My 993 C4S was originally a Canadian car, and was brought to California more than a decade ago, with no problem. All 993s brought to US and Canada were 50-state compliant from the factory, so they could be brought into US from Canada (or vice versa) with little problem, other than paying fees/duties and switching out speedovfrom KPH to MPH.
I, too, have my OBC that reads in KPH and C, but I've never cared enough to see if it can be switched to US.

I worked for Porsche when the 993's were new and I am almost positive there is a way to set the OBC to MPH and vice versa. I just don't remember whether it can be done in the car or if it has to be hooked up to the Porsche computer to do it.
I am 99% sure that no parts have to be changed.
My car was a US car to start with so the speedo and Odometer are in miles. Everything else is correct as a US car except for the OBC and the small screen being in KPH and C instead of MPH and F.

AFAIK, when I looked into it 11 years ago when I bought my car (US car), I found the switch back and forth from mph to Km could be done on the 996 and newer but not 993.

My belief that there are different parts for different markets rather than any sort of software switch comes from the part numbers in the PET:
993 641 321 00 for ROW cars
993 641 324 00 for ROW cars with option code M545 (92 litre tank)
993 641 323 00 for UK cars
993 641 322 01 for US cars
993 641 321 01 for Canadian cars

Im 100% sure you need to get the correct speedo and tacho
There is no way to change from litres to gallons, miles to kilometers, centigrade to Fahrenheit etc on a 993, 996 yes

I stopped by my regular porsche mechanic yesterday and he thinks that if the car is hooked up to the porsche computer, it can be coded to read correctly.
We willl see next Thursday when I bring the car in.

I dont have an issue with the tach or the speedo. It's only the on board computer. Like I said 3 times in this thread.
And as for my mechanic, he said he has to look into it. But he's one of the most popular and respected independent shops in NJ, Powertech, So I'm good there. Thanks for your concern though.
