Question Help for new owner with P1124 and P1126

Just picked up my first Porsche, a 96 993 C2 Coupe. Unfortunately it's got the CEL illuminated and codes P1124 and P1126 so at the moment I can't pass inspection. I've been doing a lot of searching (this forum and around the web) for what the cause could be but wanted to get some advice here.

1. If you've had these codes, what was the issue? So far I've seen different people say it was an air leak, oil filler cap/tube, MAF, or SAI issue. I know there's not really a way to be certain until getting into the car, but just want to see if there's any pattern before I blow a bunch of money on useless replacements (sadly have nowhere to work on the car myself as I live in Manhattan).

2. Due to where I live I basically have to do all work at a shop, is there any place you guys would recommend? Called Formula in Queens but they have no availability (that was my ideal as I could just take the subway back into the city afterwards). Is there any other (reasonably price hopefully) shop anyone would recommend for a tricky issue like this? Also need an alignment but I'm mostly worried about not spending a fortune on fixing this issue.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

How many miles on the car? History of engine rebuild or SAI maintenance repair? Those codes are usually a SAI issue. First thing I would do is clear the codes (any generic OBDII reader will do) and see if they come back. If they don't, follow the adaptation procedure for your readiness codes and only then take it to get inspected.

If the CEL comes back in short order then take it to a mechanic. Depending on where in NYC you are I'd go to Long Island (check out Metro NY PCA's site for approved shops), Westchester (Cheech at RennWerke) or CIM Motorsports in Central Valley - there is a convenient bus that stops right by their shop and drops you off at the Port Autrhority on 42nd Street. CIM is my shop of choice.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Mileage is 83,xxx miles. Do have an OBDII (generic) scanner and cleared the codes, but they came back relatively quickly.

And thanks for the document, very helpful!

Never experienced first hand, but Bodymotion on Jersey Shore does boast of their extensive experience in clearing the SAI ports. They have a write up on it on their website. FYI.

Any answers on this issue? I had my clutch replaced in December. Great work done by my long-time shop. Upon return of the car, I had a vacuum leak that was promptly resolved. I had some codes pop up. P1124 and p1126. Swapped the maf. No difference. Idle was way low, car would stall when I would slow down to a stop. Replaced the idle control valve. That fixed the idle. P1124 went away but I still have p1126. Ideas? Car seems to run very strong. I need a smog and Can't pass with the cel. Thanks.

Does anyone have this PDF file? I would like to review it, my 99 C2 with 120K is throwing these codes, as well as PO150 and PO130 and the website quoted above is not working.

TJ,
Yes, I did. I found this thread through a link from a 996 thread, and i though there might be some helpful hints that would also apply to my car, as I have all the same faults popping up.
Thanks!

Did you get to the root cause of your issue? I’m getting the same two error codes currently.
