Exclamation Heads up about the 991.2 headlight removal (it's different from the 991.1)

We just had our first 991.2 delivered for a clear bra wrap. Part of our process for clear bra installation is to remove the headlights and wrap around the mounting area for the headlights on the fenders and bumper. The 991.1 used a swivel galvanized tool to unlock the headlight. This tool was located in the driver side frunk tool kit.

The 991.2 headlight removal is much more involved. The bumper cover must be dropped and then 2 10mm screw heads towards the front loosened for the head lights to be removed.

This will complicate the way we do installations but I still see this as a necessary step for the best paint protection film protection and the best looking installation.

Have fun fellas.

Wow. Interesting.

Jean Claude, been meaning to ask, are you doing PPF on headlights? I've followed the delamination issue upon removal. Have you successfully removed PPF from headlights?

Thanks

If the client wants film on the headlights and they understand the risk, yes. If it is up to me, no.

Do you charge more for installing PPF -front end 991.2 vs 991.1?

We will have to for dropping the bumper. The fenders and hood edges that are otherwise exposed will get damaged and not wrapping around the headlight opening just doesn't look good.

You sure you have to drop the bumper? Don't believe they had to on mine. See pics:

The second sentence of the second paragraph says they removed the front bumper, and it is listed before they mention headlights if that was intentional. I also don't see the engagement mechanism used for the easier pop-out on the earlier 991.1.

John likely slid it back into place for the pictures. But yes, to get those headlights out dropped the bumper is required.

Just had my 991.2 done earlier this week. I'm quit pleased with the job but Rick, the owner, was very much afraid to take apart the front end and remove the lights. I did explain what needed to be done but I understood his concern.

Between the 991.2 and 718(which is now the same with the headlights), I don't think most are going to want to go through the necessary steps to safely remove and reinstall the bumpers.
