although many have commented 'bout the turbo and na engines, but i would like to see more hybrid influence. the 918 has certainly shed light on how to properly build a high performance hybrid, i ask how 'bout a 911 hybrid combined with a gasoline engine like the 918.

Funny, I would like to see a 918 without the hybrid components' weight, which is like carrying several anvils on board! And we will soon...in a somewhat similar design mid-engined non-hybrid, lighter model called the Porsche 960/988/whatever!

you and me both Eduardo ... I think that would be an awesome car, it might not be as fast as the hybrid ... but I would not care ... it will be interesting to see if the mid engine car will materialize (this is the one on the R8/Lambo platform right)?

First, the current Lamborghini Huracan & upcoming replacement chassis (MY2016/17?) for the R8 I currently own was developed in-house by Audi before Porsche was assigned by the parent VW Group the overall future role of developing 'the' sports car platform that will be capable of spawning front-mid-and rear-mid-engined cars for Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini, plus the luxury platform for its other high end marques.

http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/do...-a8-platforms/

So this 'new' Lamborghini/Audi R8 chassis will not be the platform for Porsche's 960/988. I personally think that Porsche will bring out the 960/988 on a modified 918 mid-engine carbon-fiber reinforced plastic chassis with some sort of turbo engine...and let it rip! The Fe-Fi (Ferrari Fighter). Porsche needs it to stay competitive in motorsports. The older gt3 platform will not take them much further. Indeed, that 918 chassis (sans Hybrid in many cases), modified & amended for rear, mid & front engine configurations, might ultimately be the basis for all future sport car Audis, Lamborghinis & Porsches by 2020/2021! But PAG will have the first crack at the apple (I expect to the the 960/988 by calendar year 2017!) and stay ahead of the pack by the nature of its massive investment in the 918 chassis development program, which was paid for by the loyal P-customers that have invested in one of these $845K+++ 'engineering marvels'!

Default No more 960...

918 spin-off moth-balled. Read HERE.

Rationally it made no sense, because the 918 is all about traction integration - electronically controlled all-wheel-drive, instant e-torque with raw ICE power. Less than that is just a souped-up Boxster.

The 960/988 made a lot of sense to me, actually. It fills the void of a two-seater, seats up against the engine, mid-engine supercar. Porsche doesn't have one. The 918 Spyder doesn't compete with anything Ferrari buyers would buy, except LaFerrari, and that doesn't count.

Porsche just has the Cayman.

Will the Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE) still sound cool when the electic motor is driving a hybrid 911?

The 918 Spyder sounds pretty good when the engine is running.

The Cayman (or a Boxster) is a mid-engine car with the engine right behind the seats, last I checked. A souped up 3.8L NA flat six can be mounted there and many have done it. So... if one is after mid-engin low-polar dynamics with enough power, there is an offering from Porsche. A 960 clearly did not made sense for Porsche, or so they decided...
