I am confused.............This will be the next generation of Carrera s ?
I guess 2012 since it debuts in eight months?
Because I was told by my dealer they had a 2011 carrera s coming in in a few weeks but it can not be this.
So most likely this will come out in 2012 and the 2011 will be the same?
God porsche confuses me lol

I'm still very much intrigued about the rumors regarding a convertible hardtop option. Would some purists find this insulting? Perhaps but to me it seems like its a nice evolutionary step from what the targa line has meant to the 911 platform. Every single owner on this board has probably gone through the merits of a coupe vs convert at some point in their purchasing process. If I could afford both, I would love to carry 2 cars, but that's just not realistic for me. A hardtop convert done well without adding too much weight or disrupting the lines of the car would fit in very nicely if/when the time comes for me to move onto the new model. Having said that I don't see myself getting rid of my 997.1 for a long time.
There is no current car by any manufacturer where that looks good, trunk space aside. MB completely screwed up the SL with the hardtop. The canvas looks great and it's both classic and correct. In my view Porsche will never do that with the 911! If they did I'd be done with the 911.

I absolutely hate the idea of a hardtop convertible!

I agree rag tops should be rag tops. Hard top convertibles seem like some wanted to not take the "risk" and just in case wanted to be very middle of the road.

Porsche is going lighter, not heavier, as would be required with a hard top convertible. Not to mention the fact every other HTC I can think of is front engined; there's not much room at the rear of a 911 to hide a HT roof mechanism, which would be much more bulky than a normal ragtop. I suppose you could use the back seat area somehow, but that would be a pretty strange packaging solution. I just don't see Porsche going that direction.

I have seen someone post patent drawings from Porsche for a hard-top 911 convertible roof. And, as some have pointed out, the spy-shots of the cabrio soft-top look very taught - in a way that could be a camo'd hard top made to look like fabric...or not...guess we'll know next year.

New R&T has pictures w/o the camo. They dumped the saggy 997.2 taillights. The rear is more angular with some interesting sculpting, the front is not so good, the roof has some kind of sliding mechanism that I could not quite grasp. Mag should be in circulation soon.
