Hypothetical Max Pain Price (MSRP) for the RS?
I was thinking....at what MSRP price (base) would you pass on the RS? It could be reasons such as personal financial limit, not enough value versus GT3, other cars are more appealing, etc. For me, I think if the base price was north of $250k I would look else. How about you guys?

To me it's about alternatives, I don't see that many right now other than the 675LT and 488 GTB which are both much more money. I would probably be getting the 675LT if not an RS and probably be filing for a divorce for dropping that much cash on a car...

I would not pay a $.01 over MSRP. Money is not the issue. I have a 991 GT3 and love it and I am not sold that the extra $50,000 will be justified. Keep in mind I do not track so that may be a factor.
There are other cars that I am more interested in like the Huracan or 570S. I will first wait until I am bored of the GT3.
I also do not have the garage space to have 2 toys. I also only have one cologne in my cabintry because then I do it have to chose. - I guess I am a little crazy but we all are

I am one of the poorer guys on this board, retired civil servant. I cannot even afford the 155k GT3, but I am dipping into 401k and borrowing the rest. I realize it is not a smart financial decision but life is short and I have had nice cars since I was 17. There are people that can afford these type cars and those that make themselves afford them, I am the latter. FWIW if I had an RS allocation I would have to pass as even stretching the car price from 155k GT3 to 185k as the additional 30k would make the monthly payments not doable.

I totally understand...most of us car nuts (me included) are mortals. Mortals meaning that we have to work for a living. For me to afford this sickness, I have a side business/second job. I wouldn't be able to afford more than just a GT3 on my bean counter salary. Unfortunately I don't come from money (I actually help my dad out) and I don't have a trust or some other passive stream of income/wealth.

Imo the 50 k increment is not worth the performance gap. To me the changes are very marginal. When I went from 430 to Scuderia the jump was massive in every way and the premium was justified as the performance and experience was unique enough. In the Porsche world the differences are more subtle.
Now if they stripped the interiors removed a bunch of weight added a bit more hp / tq , new race program for pdk that would entice me more as the character of the car changes. My car with bbi side muffler delete and lWb is most likely quite a bit lighter than RS.
I know to some the RS specialness is worth the premium. I respect that.

I agree at 250k I would be out.

The GT3 is a performance bargain. Thus in relation to the 3 the RS looks expensive for the marginal performance improvements it offers. If Porsche had priced GT3 at say $150k then the RS would look good at $200k, beyond that point I would be out.

The 4.0 was $50k more than 3.8RS.
It wasn't worth it for driving on the street, but it pulled smoother and the car felt better on its suspension.
It wasn't worth it for the 2 seconds a lap on track, but it pulled so nice and smooth. When I got in the 3.8RS it was the same fun, yet it just wouldn't "go".
I couldn't afford a 3.8RS certainly not a 4.0 at msrp and it had to go after they started to go nuts. Should have kept it if course as a smart investment but I rather go to the track with a replaceable car. I would have HD to park 4.0 instead I bought 3 cheap cars to enjoy.
I enjoyed the 4.0 every time I drove it and it was usually daily.
Now the same with the RS. Worth it?
Dunno, probably can't tell the difference till you get in a GT3.
Pretty sure I'm going to enjoy it, life is short might as well live it.
Should it go up again, I can't afford to keep over $250.
I kinda hope it just drops straight to $150 off the lot so I'll be stuck with it LOL

Peter , it's good you have the ownership principle right on. Drive it the way it's intended to instead of bubble wrapping and speculating. There are better alternatives for speculating. I always loved watching all your track videos from 2011, can't wait to hear your impressions.
Why would you not get a cup car with the amount of track time ? Is it more expensive overall with builds etc ?
