Ouch! I can't recall what mine was - over $1000, but that is really high. I guess I was remembering fees from way back when on an older car. They depreciate the MSRP at 35% initially, then 15% per year.

Now if you count in sales and use tax in CA, that number jumps to nearly $14K!

Yes, registration fees in Nevada are about 2x higher than CA but the sales tax savings alone make up for that huge delta. I could always go back to CA to register the car there after 1 year and never pay sales tax since I also have a home in CA. Good is to minimize the tax pain.

I wish what you quoted was true. It's deprecated 5% first year then 10% second year. Vehicle will then deprecate 10% every year until 15% of the MSRP. It's a brutal tax but cost of living is way cheaper here than Cali. The DMV fees are only low if one has an inexpensive old car.

Yes, except the first year is they value the car at 35% of base MSRP. How they calculate is right on their website. For a new GT3, they Calc the Tax as $134,500x.35=$47390 x 4%. You'll see that matches your tax portion. It is then depreciated 5% for the first year and 10% each following year until 15% of the MSRP....still expensive.
