I am personally not a dealer. I have been with Porsche for a long time. But I am not biased. I agree one does not need a RS and a 3. But the R8 does not stir my soul personally. I have driven the 4.2, v10 and GT. All are more than good cars. But no soul stirring. Soul stirring cars are when I ran Truspeed.

Also, for all those saying the old r8 was just okay, I completely agree! Like I said, I've had an r8 and an lp550 balboni gallardo and they weren't near as good as my 991. BUT, the new huracan was amazing, if the r8 was anything like the huracan it will be a very hard decision between the r8 and the rs.
Btw I only track 4-6 times per year.

I am sure the new r8 will be a nice step up. I extensively drove the v10 plus coupe and cab while is was a nice GT sports car balance, the damn thing is too heavy and the steering is just not par with a Ferrari of GT Porsche. The 4 wheel drive on the lambos and audis seem to dull the steering sensation for me and makes the cars feel less lively than a mid engine Ferrari or GT Porsche or even a spider boxster. I drove the new Huracan which was a nice improvement in feel and nimbleness from the Gallardo and Aventador but the styling just doesn't do it for me. Lambos are just too angular for my taste. Of course this is all relative as these are all great cars and each person has his own opinion on what makes the perfect sports car.

When I was shopping for my 991 C4S, I seriously considered the R8.
But backed off the Audi because the interior was dated. Knew an updated model was coming right around the corner. I'm guessing the new R8 will have the same setup as the new A3 has, which will be quite slick.

I'm interested to see the "special" R8's that we expect to see on this more flexible platform. Pricing won't be awesome, but I suspect I'll be more inspired by them to actually want one.

I wouldn't write off the R8 as not worthy of track duty. I am a GT3/RS guy all the way. But GMG has been running R8's and they hold up well and can hang with 3/RS'.. i don't mean their race car versions but regular old R8's.. I do believe they upgrade the brakes to stoptech. I would consider one for sure.. especially now with dual-clutch. But at the end of the day, I am so used to 911 physics, i am hesitant to change platforms.. even if MR is considered "more balanced".

Looks a bit like a Cayman from the side. Maybe I 'm biased...
