Am I Doing The Right Thing
I have an '08 GT3( Not an RS). It's orange with under 18K mi. Bought new and its mint! I've got a new '015(Met. Wht.) with a Sept build, Oct 31st Del.. The dealer will give me 80K on a trade so that equates to approx. 87K with tax savings(N.Y.). I hate selling cars privately, is this a good deal on the trade? I love my car and love the Manual Tranny, maybe I should keep the '08 and try to sell the '015(165K MSRP). Are the new ones going at a Premium?

IMO, $80k isn't far below market for your '08 but you leave $5-6k on the table by not selling it privately. If it were me, I'd sell it here on Rennlist myself. It won't be around for long.

Except that he gets a $7k tax credit as he has posted. Compare that to your $5k - 6k on the table and he stills comes out ahead. Most states that allow for tax credits on trade-in don't give that to you on a private sale.

post a feeler on REnnlist first...people are gt3 hungry, and you may get a better price

And he doesn't have to lift a finger facilitating the sale/trade. Or, have to worry about the buyer wanting to take it to his mechanic for a look see, etc.

The trade-in value sounds good. It will be tough/unlikely to get more than $87k for your 08 in a private sale. Much more hustle, too.
That said, since you love your 08 and the MT, enjoy it for 2-3 more years and if you must have a 991 gt3 then you can probably make the upgrade for $50k extra (instead of $85k today).
Eat slower; chew; savor your bites .

With the rapid appreciation of the air-cooled cars I'm definitely going to pull the trigger on a 991GT3 but I prefer to not take the depreciation hit. Although, looking at the present value of the 997.2 GT3, the hit might not be as steep as on the garden variety Carreras.

I think if you can only have (1) take the trade in and not look back. But, if you can find away to keep both - do it an you will have the best of both worlds

That is a good deal on the trade. Even though orange is a popular (and uncommon) color, I don't think you would get over $87k in a private sale.
As to your second question - no, the 991 is not trading at a premium.
The '08 is the last of a breed. If you love it, keep it.

I just went though the same thing selling my gt3
If the dealer really giving 80k that is a great deal
Take it
Private buyers are still thinking the can buy these cars at last years prices even though there are more buyers than cars available .
The dealer is being very realistic.

You could ask the dealer to do a "courtesy trade", which means you find a buyer for your car and tell them you will do the paperwork at the Porsche dealer. This way you get the best of both worlds, higher price for your 08 and the tax savings. I've done this a few times. The salesman will normally look at you funny when you ask, then he will go ask the manager and he knows about it.
