I see it all the time up here in the snow belt region. No one wants to get in a non heated car.

^^^ I drive away with the blue light on but keep the revs down until the light goes out.

I make sure the garages' AC vent is aimed on the drivers seat with the windows down.
Start the car and let the AC in the car come up to full cooling and close the windows before I raise the garage door.

Then I drive away and even though the blue light goes out in 10 seconds I keep RPMS around 1800-2500 until the oil reaches 180-190. Is 80F concidered a cold start?

My 30-45 MPH speed limit out of the hood to the Interstate matches exactly to the distance needed to get the temp right for max attack for an exit or two, if lucky the one traffic light is green so that the car doesn't sit hot standing still at a red light.

On the way home it's a nice cool down run into the hood.

Thanks Nizer, great to understand the specifics of why driving off is better (always what I've done but never understood the reasons.)

Solid reminder now that winter is upon us. This is a practice I adopted years ago.

our winters here worst case gets to like 0 c degrees

i use the car only on weekends so whenever i turn it on, it is mostly a cold start, although i have been turning it on during the week a few times so that it is not a cold start weekend until the next weekend

anyway, what i do, is i turn on the car it is very loud at first then it goes much lower and is stable at that point i normally wait for 30 seconds then drive off

when i drive off i keep it always under 4,000 by manual shifting as i always put it in manual, i don't push the car until the temp hits 92 c degrees but sometimes this can take a while ... is 92 c degrees being way too conservative? can i push it once it hits 85 instead

when i turn off the car, i do what Bronson7 always says he does, which is wait 1 minute to 90 seconds after parking it before turning it off and as he said it stopped putting out a lot of smoke when turning on the car even on a cold start

hope everyone is enjoying the last few days of 2016 and wishing all a great 2017 in heath / safety, wealth and much more P cars

someone told me i should not turn on my car only once a week meaning leaving it off all week then the day i drive turn it on then turn it off and turn it on 1 week later when i drive it again

So i gather i should only turn it on if i am going to drive it, is that what you are saying? Anything else wrong with what i've been doing ?

85C is good for your oil temp, to then exceed 4K RPM.

12 days is nothing. Start the car, and drive off.

Does this apply to Diesel engines too?
