FABSPEED MOTORSPORT | 987 Cayman Track Car Exhaust Swap
This 987 Cayman came into the shop last week after the owner called in with concerns about an exhaust leak with his existing system. He was looking for something which would replace his current system and offer him maximum power and sound on his track/weekend car.
Once the car arrived, it was obvious that it had been built/spec-ed by a discerning owner. The interior had been re-done with GT3-style seats and race harnesses, as well as a nicely-fitted bolt-in roll cage/harness bar. The suspension and undercarriage was fully built with performance sway bars, control arms, end links, brake ducts and more. The aero had also been upgraded with a carbon fiber wing and rear deck lid combo.
As we got the car up on the lift, it quickly became obvious why the owner was having exhaust leak issues. The existing aftermarket system that he had on the car was badly corroded and failing in numerous places. There were stress cracks along most of the mounting bracket seams, and pinhole leaks along one of the welds.
We removed the existing system and fitted our Supercup Race Exhaust System in its place. (http://www.fabspeed.com/987-2-boxste...xhaust-system/)
The design and fitment of the Fabspeed system allowed for much better clearance of the sway bar link and the axle, and eliminated the exhaust leaks while providing additional power and improved sound.
We finished the installation with the Black Chrome Tips (which were a big improvement in our opinion!) and sent the car on its way, ready for many more miles of track time and and weekend back roads!

Very nice upgrade! My current tubi system works nicely, but if I lower the ride height much I get lots of contact over the axles. Can your over-axle pipes mate with my system?

Our apologies Bill, we corrected the post to reflect the correct generation. I hope you are enjoying your new supercup!

Do you have any idea what the noise level of the Supercup exhaust is? I heard one recently on a car with a 3.8 motor and it was quite loud. That one would definitely not comply with the noise limit at a track like Lime Rock. Is the exhaust for the 3.4 motor any different?

Bill, welcome to the dark side!
Want to chime in here about Fabspeed. Recently I was having some issues with my Fabspeed race exhaust but the guys at Fabspeed took good care of me.
Rob (who handles warranties) was great and very responsive to inquiries and questions. Owner Joe Fabiani personally called me on the phone and we had a good chat (still waiting for that visor though ). And Alex (the GM and who I usually dealt with in the past) has always been great.
They pretty much replaced most of my exhaust with a brand new system. New inlet pipes and mufflers on both sides even though they did not have to do that. Fantastic service. I just paid for labor.
Thanks guys!!

Yes, It's a Getty RS Wing and wing base. I have written an article on its installation over on the Cayman Register. Here's a few more pics attached.
