Run Flats for a 2009 987 Boxster S
My 2009 Boxster S runs 235/40-18 on 8" wheels in the front & 265/40 18 on 9" wheels in the rear. If switching to run flats, Tire Rack recommends the closest sizes in run flats which are 245 & 275 versions of same on Bridgestone RE050A RFTs. Without a spare & living in NM where cell phone coverage can be spotty, I seek the assurance of run flat tires beyond fix-a-flat and a pump alternative.
Has anyone had experience with these tires on a Boxster and would recommend or discourage use of same.
Thanks in advance.

I do not have experience with run-flats, but most of what I've read is that the tires suck. In my Boxster with 19" wheels and PS2's I travel with a fully charges cell phone and an emergency tire repair kit (plugs). I would never use the fix-a-flat stuff in the can. And I keep my fingers crossed!

Run Flats? Why buy a Porsche? You've just crippled what makes a Porsche - a Porsche. They have no where near the grip and handling of a conventional tire in the same category. Run flats are somewhat decent when new, but deteriorate rapidly with usage. When they get to 5/10th's tread or so, they get lumpy and lose considerable amount of grip. I had them on a BMW and hated them so much I replaced them with conventional tires and it was a vast improvement.
Don't emasculate your Porsche. Get an "N" series tire made for Porsche. The latest generation of the Michelin PS2 will be available next month and promises a 20% improvement in all categories.

Your car will ride very differently with runflats due to the supported sidewall.
Check for compatibility with the wheels you plan to use.
Although they can be fixed, some shops will only offer replacement if you get a flat.
See if a 996 collapsible spare will work for you.

I had run flats on my car that I used for street use, I would not recommend it. I picked up a nail in 2 tires at the same time, they were rendered useless. If they weren't run flats I could have repaired them, instead of having to shell out a several hundred dollars to puchase new ones.

what a way to kill a performance car, don't do it man. What are you afraid off , a flat tire? Thats why you have a spare, and if you don't have a spare then get a AAA membership.
