Default S brakes on a base Cayman

Any problems with putting S brakes on a base Cayman and other than the Boxster S and Cayman S, which Porsches use the same brakes?
Anybody know of some for sale?

I think the S and non S brakes are the same size. The only difference is the color.

The S has larger diameter disks as are the calipers.

Are you sure about this in the 2009+ cars? I looked into it for a friend a few months ago and was surprised they were the same specs on the Porsche website.

You may be right on the new models, but mine is 2007 and I have seen both brakes for the first generation. Clear difference in the calipers and brake pad size.

The gen1 S models had bigger calipers and rotors. The brakes are the same on gen2 base/S/R cars. (Pads on the R are different)

I'm curious if you need new mounts (spindles?) as well or if the new calipers mount to a common part. I believe that the base's front calipers are the same as the S rear calipers. So you really only need the new fronts. Of course you still need S rear rotors because of the parking brake.

Now I am a bit confused, because if the rear brakes are the same, why would I need anything for the rear?

I knew I had read this before so I had to search around for it a little. See post #20 - http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxst...e-upgrade.html

The summary is that the mounting points are all the same, as is the master cylinder. You can take your base front calipers and move them to the rear. Then you need to buy S front calipers and all 4 S rotors. You can't move your base front rotors to the rear because they do not have the internal drum you need for the parking brake. Also, your front and rear calipers will be different colors.

As Ducky said above, the 2009+ base cars have the same brakes as S's so that could be another source for upgrade parts.

Now you've got me thinking. If I can keep an eye out for some S front calipers to have ready when my rotors need replacing it wouldn't seem like that expensive of an upgrade.

So after reading the thread from Planet 9, it sounds like a set of 996 C2 front brakes are an identical match, other than color. Thanks for the information.

On my base model '05 987.1 Boxster, I bolted on the calipers/rotors from an '07 987.1 Cayman S.

The calipers/rotors from the CS were bigger than my stock brakes. Plus they are red

BOLTED on. Zero modding with this mod.

Thanks for confirming what I thought. I had a black Boxster just like yours and replaced it with a Cayman. Both are great cars.
I appreciate the Renn List, help is always there!

Don't know if this will push you over the edge, but we have both Left and Right S calipers on sale...

In addition to the 996 C2 models, I have found that the 2000 Boxster S forward will fit the Cayman and Boxster S models, at least through 2009. Same calipers and rotors.
