I have a real factory 968 turbo bumper they are just extremely well done modified versions of the standard bumpers. When I got it as you can see the factory filler and taped off primer in modified area is clearly visible. It was almost ready for paint just needed a bit of fine sand work and 2 coats of primer over entire part. Then I let paint sit for a month and get hard. Guide coated it, a bit more sanding and was ready for a seal coat, maritime blue base and final clear. Oh and boy are the lighter non mettalic paints so much easier to match.
The new article in Panorama on the Turbo cars is interesting. It pretty much gels with what you are saying here, that the drivers had some factory support, but it was on a shoe string budget and they had to work with what they had.
The blurb on the headgasket constantly blowing, and Porsche saying just back off on the boost to fix the problem sounds like there was very little interest in investing too much into the platform
