Default Motor Out...Let the WYIT begin!

Wish me luck the motor is out. Head was pulled and bent valves repaired.
Purchased with known bad head (9 teeth eaten off timing belt) Ultimately I think head gasket was blown and the water in number 4 probably caused the timing belt to sheer teeth and voila valves bent.

Engine has 150 k. Will do rod bearings and main bearings. Still questioning doing rings?? Seems to be no consensus on this alusil subject.

Probably do the flex plate damper for tiptronics also (OUCH $968.00)

I would put in some fresh motor mounts if they haven't been done in the last 10 years, and since you have great access, it may be a good time to reseal the upper and lower balance shaft housings. I'd do the rear main seal when you do the flex plate, an if any power steering lines are leaking, now is the time to swap them out. Good luck, looks like a great project!

This might be a good time for a 6 speed swap!

The motor mounts are different for a Tiptronics transaxle. Some have tried to put in regular M/M to save some money and they give a much harsher ride. The Tips cost around $265.00 each.

Cheers,

Motor dis-assembled, off to machine shop to have a few things cleaned up.
Crank polished and checked to spec.
Alusil cylinders lapped with the Sunnen Silicium. (hard to find a place that does this) Contemplated doing with portable hone and some felt pads myself.

Ordering the main bearings and rings. Hope to be putting back together next weekend!

Bores and piston tops look great. Looks to be a well sorted motor. Good luck.

Every rubber hose....especially the heater supply should be closely inspected. Replace as necessary.

I would actually recommend changing every hose. Now is the time to do any preventative maintenance.

Rolled that dirty pig out into the yard and cleaned up the engine bay while awaiting my parts back from the machine shop. Lots to do while we rebuild the heart. Cleaned up better than I thought.
