Head stud or valve failure at 25F cold start?
I started the car after a week of sitting, Its mid 20's outside. It sounded fine at startup and immediately went inside for 5 min. This is the racket I came back to. Running on like 5 cyl. Any ideas? I will put it up on my lift and drop a valve cover and look. Just curious if it sounds familiar. Side note, started it a week ago after a month of sitting and had some valve tick from that pass side that went away as it heated up, and drove fine and quiet for 2 hours.

I had something similar happen on my race car. The valve adjust screw nut backed off and that valve was very loose.
found the nut stuck to my magnetic drain plug and opened up VC, put it back on, adjusted valve, checked others and she was fine after that.

Owww. Shouldn't be hard to find once you look. Curious what weight oil you're running.
If say 20/50 it really isn't wise to even start the car at such low temps-best leave it till spring.
Though that advice comes a bit late-sorry.

Had something similar - think "txhokie4life" is on right track. I had the tip of the valve adjustment screw break off. This left a large gap between rocker arm and valve head make a strange sound like this. Found broken tip resting in channel in cam carrier. I just replaced rocker arm in car. Was easy fix - hope yours is the same or easier.

i once chased what i was sure was a ticking valve. Turned out to be loose plug. this was on a different car, but same ticking noise. plug was in PITA location and I just hadn't torqued it down properly.
