The news gets better. As we look at the engine, we are finding a few things that will gain, perhaps, one or two more HP.

The next step is to dismantle the entire motor, look for any problem areas or parts and, if any, correct. Thereafter, an entire new engine will be built for endurance dyno testing. Testing should be completed by the end of summer.

Assuming endurance runs show no problems, I will determine in what spec (level of lightness through the use of, e.g., carbon fiber and titanium) a complete engine and Bosch ECU can be sold and at what price.

Jjm,

I can tell you are bored with your car and want to start a brand new project, perhaps with one of these engines. I'd be willing to trade straight up with you my 73,000 mile C2 for your old, worn out, beat up C2.

Just think......a nice clean slate to start all over again with

A number of people have asked about using an older 964 or 993 engine in building one of the new engines (2-valve or 4-valve).

Unfortunately, given all of the parts in our new engines that are different from those in the older engines, the only part that might be used from an old engine is the case if it is in excellent condition. Virtually everything else is new and it would make no sense, financial or otherwise, to mix a few minor old parts into the new engines.

Nice rig! I see some very long pimary headers. No cats? The Bosch system uses coil packs? Happy to read any details that you're willing to divulge.

Hi Robert,

That looks like a lovely piece of kit!

A quick question, if not a stupid one if I may please. Is the engine "just" an engineering exercise (e.g. 2 versus 4) or do you have a race programme in mind for it?

Cheers,
Paul

It is not just an exercise though it grew out of one. Having said that, I do not know of a "professional" race series that includes air cooled engines. Of course, it could be used for other racing and certainly for street use.

Schenck dynamometer, that is a serious piece of equipment. Used for many many years by the Porsche factory themselves, going back to the 356 days.

As I have said, this is a serious effort.

Latest engine news is that a couple of cylinders were running a bit hot so we added some additional cooling which solved that problem but, as a result, the 2-valve, air cooled, normally aspirated engine is down to 451 HP on street gas and with a catalytic converter.
