Recommend me a good amp for my audio system
Hello,
My Headunit is Becker CDR220
I have a new audio system on the way, my car has MBquart speakers in the front and I want to replace them and take my car to another step. Last month I have installed new Rainbow speakers on my Defender 90 and I was so pleased that I want to upgrade the speakers on my 964 turbo.
I have ordered Rainbow Audio 5.2 component speakers to the front and Rainbow 4x6 speaker for the rear.
The specs on the front speakers are :
2-way 5.25 inch (13 cm) Compo Set
20 mm Silk dome Tweeter
Max. 120 Watts
Minimum Amplifier Power: 30 Watts
Frequency Responce: 60 Hz – 21 kHz
The specs of the rear speakers are:
4 x 6 inch (9 cm x 15 cm) Coaxial Set
20 mm Silk dome Tweeter
Max. 60 Watts
Minimum Amplifier Power: 20 Watts
Frequency Responce: 70 Hz – 21 kHz
What would be a suitable amplifier for my install. I wouldn't mind an amplifier installed up front in the boot or under the seat.
I am worried about how I can hide the new crossovers, is there a way to do so ?

Since you have gone for Rainbow speakers you can consider looking at the Rainbow ipaul range of amps.
Any reason you did not go for 6.5" front speakers as they fit easily?
Easy enough to hide and mount the crossover units, once you have removed the doorcards and start fitting you will see.

I have been looking at iPaul 4300
4 x 90 Watts @ 4 Ohm
4 x 140 Watts @ 2 Ohm
2 x 270 Watts @ 4 Ohm bridged
12 dB High Pass: 15 Hz – 500 Hz (5 kHz Front)
12 dB Low Pass: 50 Hz – 5 kHz
Dimensions (LxWxH): 415 x 250 x 60 mm
Adequate ?

Power wise it appears adequate provided the wattage figures are rms.
I fitted my amp (Audison) in the frunk, I will put some pics up in a few minutes.

Thats a nice neat install G60
Can I ask a few quick questions, as you seem to know your audio?
Do you find the amp gets hot under the frunk, or does it run without issue?
Im looking to instal the 6.5" rainbow components and loose the rear fill. I want to then fit a compact 6.5" sub (Music power 300WMAX, Power rating 100WRMS). Do you think i'd be better off with a single amp or have a dedicated sub amp? I have a Becker HU, but doubt that would be enough to power the components.
Thanks
Chris

No problems with the amp as it has an internal fan for cooling. Obviously you will need to check if the amp you are getting is fan cooled if you want to have it stealth mounted like mine.
You can still run the rear fill speakers off the headunit. Due to the size and configuration of the 964 I would say just get one amp as it will be a lot easier to install.
I have two 8" Hertz subs mounted in sealed fibreglass/mdf boxes on the floor behind the front seats run off the same Audison amp together with the front 6.5" SPL Dynamics components.
Rear fill 4" speakers (cabriolet size) run off the Becker Grand Prix (old style like the CDR21).

Cheers for that bud
Not sure whether to buy new rear speakers, or just loose them and re-trim / smooth the rear shlf to loose the wiper hole too.
Did you build your sub boxes yourself?

I am going to start a sound deadening project this fall myself. Slowly gathering the supplies. I bought a roll of mass loaded vinyl on ebay for 60$ shipped. That should be enuff for the parts that i am going to treat.( doors, rear deck, wheel wells) still need closed cell foam and dynamat.
