Many reasons Chief among which is that they are exactly the style I was after to achieve the look I'm going for. I've had VE/TSW on Volkswagens for years and have never had a problem.

Weight is under 11kg (24lb) for 18x8

I believe the idea is that if that bushing were to fail, that too large washer would keep the lower mount in place versus having a catastrophic suspension failure.

Yup, exactly right. Also the space is necessary so that the bottom joint has room for proper articulation.
