Yes, both tabs that hold the spindle to the body of the strut broke off at the welds. The spindle & wheel were no longer connected to the strut.
Stock motor mounts, gearbox mount is stock 968 filled with window weld.

Both flange welds looked identical (bad) when separated at the time of failure. One flange is welded worse than the other on each shock. The worst (non penetrating weld) is the one that fails first, then the second weld fails dropping the car onto the wheel (catastrophic failure).
After the first failure I sent them to Moton for a rebuild and they replaced the shock bottom. The second failure was repaired properly by my fabricator with careful, slow full penetration welds. I have full confidence in this repair.

When did y'all buy your Motons? And they are actual Motons (as opposed to MCS which some folks call Motons)? I have MCS, I've heard third or fourth hand that after AST bought Moton, they eventually started having some quality control issues.

That pic looks familiar. Yuck. We didn't get a pic because it went immediately to emergency surgery mode.
Mine are ~'05, but maybe of interest is the strut that failed had the body replaced by Moton in '08. Apparently whomever was doing their welding in '08 wasn't very good. The welds are different on the older strut. One continuous bead where as the one that failed had 2 separate welded sections on each tab. These have a lot of hours on them so I can't really complain but I was surprised that it failed like that. They will get much closer inspection from here on out.

Well, just asked Karl (Racer's Edge) about it. It is a fatigue problem that often happens when they get old. Jim, I mentioned you specifically, and he thought yours were newer. But it is a fatigue problem, and not unique to Moton. He had a set of Ledas sitting on a shelf he showed me that had the same thing.

The sway bar set up is all Kokeln.
The welds are bad - defective as determined by an expert (my fabricator who is a consultant on Ford legal - product defect lawsuits). To be fair these struts have a ton of hours on them.
