Wastegate Dump to Atmosphere?
Is there anyone out there that is running this setup on their street car? I am considering an exhaust that is setup this way and was wondering if it would be too loud, annoying, ??? for the street. I have no idea what it would sound like, I am only familiar with the BOV sounds from other turbocharged cars.

I have open dump. It's definitely a different noise and NOT for everyone. It sounds like a combination of a jet fighter and tearing canvas in high winds. I'd suggest you find someone who has open dump and get a ride with them before you decide to do it on your car. Granted... my car is pushing the limits of what a "street" car should be.

wow, sounds interesting! I don't think there are any guys from Indy that are running a setup like this. But that is a good suggestion. How long have you been running it like that, and do you ever get tired of it? I wonder if there are any videos or sound clips out there somewhere??? I can't imagine that the wastegate you are running would make any difference?

Sounds like loud ripping canvas. Doesnt get overly annoying, since you only hear it when the wastegate is open of course. Get Lindsey Racings dump pipe for it if you go this route, it should cut down on the mess under there at the back.
Dont know how emissions test people will respond, seeing an open exhaust pipe...

The nice thing about a wastegate dump is that you don't have to listen to it ALL the time. For most of the part throttle stuff the WG is closed and you don't get any extra noise. Even with a few PSI, the boost is being regulated by the TB, not the WG.
I've ridden/driven a few hundred miles in a buddies Eclipse GSX with a open dump. It was definitely something that stretched the smile on my face even further than the one already caused by the boost.
It's on my "after the car is running" list, although I'd have to be sure I could still meet noise regs at the track.

Anyone running a Tial WG with an open dump? I question this because most likely if you are running a Tial, you don't have a WG bracket holding it up. Now if you don't and you run a WG dumb that is extra weight and it is not supported by the exhaust that the WG would exit back into on a normal exhaust. Any problems with this? Can the little crossover to WG pipe handle the weight and excess stress?

When the guy put in my 3" I justhad him cut the WG pipe. made things a lot easier.
And the same as eveyone said. only loud when on the boost, but it is such a good sound

I have dump and Tial.
No one uses the bracket with the Tial??? Mine is on there, but was pita. And without it it was still pretty stable.

My buddy with a 95 RX7 (custom single turbo conversion) initially had it dumped to atmosphere but it got too annoying as a daily driver and he plumbed it back in. Where and how it dumps will determine how loud it is and the possibility of exhaust getting in the cabin. I personally don't think there is an advantage to doing it other than scaring the crap out of somebody you're passing...

I have been running an open wastegate for years(930 and 951), wouldn't have it any other way.
When I get it put back together in the next month or so you are welcome to a ride.
