Wastegate Dump to Atmosphere?

I have bought the Lindsey WG pipe, will try it. I have been thinking about making the first part of the exhaust with the tie in easier to swap out and have one section with no muffler for the loud days and the quiet one when I need to quiet the car down. I have a dB meter and will see how loud it gets.

Dumped wastegate
If I had to drive the car on the street a lot I would get tired of it. It's a track-only car so not an issue.
Diago, as far as sound limits at tracks, it should pass fine. You could always rotate the dump tube away from the testing station to help.

I only notice mine when going by a guardrail or another car that is close and reverbs off. Otherwise, since only at WOT, it is not really that bad.

i was thinking about this when i heard a turbo mustand at the track. I am pretty sure it was venting to the atmosphere because it sounds like an air plane when on boost.

when you hear the boost hiss real loud, isnt that because the turbo has a thin compressor housing?
anyway, back on topic, i have it dumped, and it's loud. definetly over 100db, maybe 110, if i'm next to a sound barrier on the freeway, or a guardrail, it's LOUD. i'd hate to be in the car next to me when i do it.
HIGHBOOST has been in the car right next to me when i let it loose, as have some other nor-cal rennlisters. anyone on the skaggs spring rd run/GTG or the last sierra drive has witnessed the awesomeness of the dumped wastegate.
it's not for everybody, but with the stock WG and the dump tied back into the exhaust, i would start to bleed off real bad in the higer rpm's. so when i'd be neck-to-neck with my friend's similar car, i'd drop back in the high rpm, and catch up when i'd get full boost again. i'd bleed off maybe 6 or 7 psi.
with the stock WG dumped to the atmosphere (turned down to the ground) i hold 15 psi almost to redline, and bleed off MAYBE 1 or 2 psi.
it makes a huge difference. and i stay off the boost when i'm in the city, because i know it's too loud. so it's great for me- it's a deterrent to going fast when i dont need to (save gas), and hold boost longer when i do need it.
i dont think i can have a turbo car any other way.

Having an open dump has absolutely nothing to do with how much boost you're going to bleed off. The stock wastegate is a piece of junk. Also I'd SERIOUSLY doubt 110db, and I have an open 3 inch pipe (no muffler) and an open dump.

You haven't noticed any problems without using a bracket for the WG? Any vibration issues?
No issues or vibrations.
Its still a good idea to have a bracket on it. no dout.
With my resonator instaled know, i made a bracket for it.

"I can hold 15psi w/o opening it since boost is set a 20psi on my car."
What is your boost controller??
ToddK911,
I use a Greddy profec tpye S,
I can runs 15psi if i don'T presse the gas all the way. You can controll the boost with the gas even on a stock car.
The wastegate will only open at it set pressure.
But the factory gate is week so it opens easyer and alot sooner compared to a Tial.
Plus it stays open once at topend even if the boost is bellow wanted boost pressure.
Thats why a aTial is so good. It closes even at 6500rpm if you don'T have set boost pressure.

I need to get out of california...i want open exhaust....
wouldnt boost bleed off have to correspond with how much backpressure there is on the WG and in the system in general?
all i know is i bled off ~7 psi before the dump, and ~1 after it.
correlation doesnt mean causation, but i didnt do anything else in between.
really? wouldnt it be around 110 at WOT with the WG open + the regular exhaust?
maybe not 110, but definetly 100, right?
i need to get that tested with a db meter.
