alternator is easy to replace in the 944...
remove the airbox (2 bolts in back below brake master cylinder, 3 nuts holding front bracket to radiator frame, one hose clamp for AFM, one AFM wire, and the breather hose to the side of the box)
remove the 13mm nut and 8mm nut on the back of the alternator, remove the wires.
bottom bolt IIRC is 13mm head, might have a nut on it. top bolt also 13mm, should have a nut on it as well, then just wiggle the alternator until its free.
should be back to a running car in about an hour.

Sorry for the late reply keiffer, and props to v2rocket for the alternator remove and replace instructions.
I removed and refitted my alternator and got it repaired at an auto electrician.
Good luck with yours.

Buy an adjustable regulator kit, pull the alternator, inspect and clean the moving parts then check your BATT/ALT/STARTER wiring and connections.
Simple stuff.
