PCNA looking for a 928
This was in an E-mail from PCA:
Wanted: 928 1987 or later w/ 5 speed
Porsche Cars North America is looking for a 1987 or later 928 with a 5 speed transmission. This car will be used in their classics training program to train the next generation of Porsche mechanics. The car needs to be in drivable condition and have a stock drivetrain as well as suspension and brakes. If you have one and are looking to sell, please contact alex.bethencourt@porsche.us

You may want to state "where" they need this car.
Also curious: Who is going to do the training? Will the training include things we have collectively learned over the years?

This seems odd.
They could shed flint and afford any of dozen(s?) of 928s that fit this that are for sale any given day on the interwebs in the US. Hundreds if they target the common car with an auto.

I love how they want a 5 speed. Autos outnumber manuals by a large margin.
Autos need to be filled properly. Need to have the cable adjusted properly. Need proper vacuum to operate. All the standard issues that are commonly brought up on here. The whole flex plate/TT/Thrust bearing issue.
Not that the autos are bad, but they have issues particular to them.
The only real issue with the manuals that occurs to me (other than issues internal to the box) is the shifter ball cup.

Who is going to train the trainer(s)?
Admire the thought. But the "next generation" getting a glancing shot at a 928 and then getting back into present-day tech, well I don't hold out a great deal of hope for the depth of learning and degree of retention.

This is very promising. I was sort of worried that VW's financial troubles were going to put a crimp in the Classic program, but hopefully this is just the first step before some NLA stuff goes back into production.

Wonder if b/c they see prices rising on 928s PCNA, in their infinite wisdom is guessing that buyers of the expensive 928s (perhaps bc they don't know of other options?) will bring the car to their dealers for service? With a labor rate of ~$150/hour they're about the only owners that may be able to afford to do so..... Doubt there will be enough of those high priced 928s sold in the foreseeable future to make it worth the initial investment.
Also doubt anyone would want the car after their done with it.... Torn down and rebuilt numerous times? I've heard stories about the "practice" Porsches!

I attended one of the last 928 factory training class and at the end of the class the instructor gave out the remaining inventory of training material so I scored some good books.
