Hans,
Let me know how much. My crossbar was bowed when I bought my car so it's on my list to be replaced. Nice job BTW.

However, the single-pivot rod-end configuration would allow for you to install in a rigid fashion without having parallel mounts. The waterjet cut plates are very inexpensive. Would be very easy to have a "rigid mount" version.

Its just a simple project because I ran across all the stuff to build it when I was looking around for something else. Schnell has been offering a similar bar for years, but I dont personally like carbon fiber braces.
I too think the slots are quite a bad idea - why if you have an adjustable bar do you need slots. You certainly don't want the mounts sliding on the bolts so you need to have more torque on the bolts to avoid that. On the fixed stock bar I could see alignment and width issues being a factor, but not on an adjustable width part with a pivot mount.

Hans - how did you end up building the series of these? slots or tight clearance bolt holes?

I have the Schnell bar and I like it. It does have slots because it doesn't pivot horizontally, but it also has another issue: the mount to bar vertical pivot has far too much play in it. I needed to add a sleeve around the bolt the eliminate this - else there would have been basically ~1mm of slack movement in the bar. The folks making this needed to think more about their hardware choices - the bar itself is well made but this basically negated that. I implemented the fix - but you shouldn't need to do this.

The Les Paul has been part of my guitar collection for a longtime which on retirement I plan to perfect playing and join the band

The bar(s) are the new Hans pieces that are excellent in every aspect

Alan,

I went with just slightly oversized holes, This gives some flexibility in the mounting (I have seen a lot of those welded mounts where they are not perpendicular to the inside fender/hood interface, making the bracket look cocked when installed without any adjustment.) There is not a lot there, but enough to correct for minor visual misalignment.

There is no slop in the bar at all and it is easily tightened on the car.

Hey everyone...I just got Hans' cross brace today and have installed it...

Install was a breeze...Hans has thoughtfully threaded the ends so you can adjust the size of the bar by just loosening one of the jam nuts and twisting the bar....got it put on...drove for a bit and settled it in..then made sure the cross bar was tight against the drivers' side jam nut then I tightened the passenger's side.

The pivot bolts are huge..and have big lock nuts to keep them in place...very very nice quality of all components..I'm very pleased.

Looks choice, right?

Overhead view...easy fit.

Close Up of Drivers Side...hot stuff!...Juicy~!

Passenger side...hot cross-brace action!
