Notice anything unusual ('88 S4 Engine)
So this is the engine out of my '88 S4 that is going in my track car. I've had the engine in various states of disassembly while in the car ( pan off, intake off, front of engine off), but this is the first time I've had it on a stand. I was removing the pan studs I had installed on my last pan gasket install, prepping the motor for the pan spacer and OB pan that is going on. As I was working my way around the block something didn't seem right about the view, then it hit me.
Can you see what caught my eye?

Piston #8 wants to get close and personal with mr. Crank.
Squirter holes on piston #7.
Wait, it's trick question. The oil pressure sender adapter looks weird.
I give up.

Just looked at the pics of the underside of my track car engine (91S4)...it has nuts... so this must be a GTS engine LOL.... except for the fact that the dyno results from this particular engine don't support that conclusion...
Adams engine also is missing the engine number/ serial number (just a blank machined face where it should be). Suspect jim bobs porch repair just grabbed whatever they hand on the shelf when they replaced the whole engine after it came in for an oil change LOL...
and a pic of mine for reference..

I can vouch for the bolts on GTS motor- I have a sack load of them upstairs taken from my TBF'd [original GTS] motor [trashed before I purchased the car and put my S4 motor in it].

I think you might be looking at the non concentric machining marks that you'll see on all motors, which are often thought to be from crank throws 'planing' the side of the main bearing 'cap' web of the girdle.
The pic below shows typical machining, which is not concentric with the crank centreline, which it would have to be if it was scoring ....

And Jim is correct! (About the bolts vs. studs, not the GTS part )
Yes, this is apparently a warranty block. So if this is post '92 build, that means that Porsche warrantied this motor 4 years after the car was sold? Is that possible, or did a third party find the motor and install it? What was the original warranty, any idea?
And it is otherwise all S4 inside, late model rods, no ports in the webbing.
