All of the 928 historical info on the 928 Owners Club website is viewable by non-members; if you send me a copy I'll have it (and any other 928 info that is contributed, anytime) up there the next day.

So the book of Arcane Knowledge has moved on to Dr. Bob to be scanned.
I took too long to get it out to him, so here is a sampler:

Others may have some knowledge of this, but I had none: my understanding is that the engineers at Porsche got very close to putting a cylinder cut-out engine in the 928.

This article speaks of a lot of R&D put into the concept.

They apparently thought that the L-Jet would be a good choice, due to its electronic fuel injection and the eight cylinder engine.

To make the concept more practical, the engine would have to operate as two separate V-4's -- complete with two intakes and MAF sensors...

Recently saw a book that was a dealer support publication called 928 The Alternative, which basically was an instruction manual on how to sell a front V8 water cooled engined GT to a 911 owner. Pretty interesting.

That sounds like an interesting read to see the strategies and points they make to buy a 928. Sounds similar to something like this, but more 928 specific:

Thanks for making this available to the 928 masses Dave! And to Dr. Bob for the technical reality. All of us greatly look forward to reading what the thoughts were of those who created these machines we love so much.

Pages arrived literally as I was heading out the door to a conference in Houston. I took a glance in the envelope enough to see that I'll need to set up for the oversized pages when I get back. The pages look good, so the artwork will reproduce OK as it is. Text is sharp enough to OCR , saving a lot of recreation effort. Next window is late April.

Dave,
What is the latest with this? I have not seen the .pdfs released. Did I miss it? If the .pdfs are not happening, do you mind if I borrow the original for a read? I will be at your office this week for one of my pup's annual checkups. Do you mind bringing it to the office?
Thanks

You didn't miss it, the short answer is that I don't have it back yet.
To be fair we had a busy year and Bob was doing it as a favor.
But, yes, I woooooood like to get it back for my collection.

...paging Dr. Bob....

I'm here. I'll package it up and send it with the DVD of the raw scans. At some point I'll be able to reset the text and do some enhancing on the "photocopy" pictures. Recovering now from some eye work, so not the best time to try detailed photo work.
