I have an opportunity to buy 1987 CS

Part of the allure of special cars or prototypes is the "story" behind the car.. the more documentation you have on that ..the better...
Personally an early CS prototype would be worth more than one of the "regular" runs ...
I hope you get it and bring it back to its original glory.. Maybe I've got the rose colored glasses on, but I definitely see a diamond in the rough here...

At the moment only very few 928's are in category where it makes financial sense to have them totally rebuild professionally. ROW 0011 and last US GTS could be only ones now. In future more 928's will raise into this level when values go up. Next ones to get there are other very early ROW '78 MY cars and CS models including '87 MY protos and race team driver cars.

My German ain't perfect... but, the emails says basically, "After looking at all your documents, we can confirm that that this is a pre-series model, but we do not know for what purpose this particular pre-sereis model had."
For me, it means they can't confirm that it is a pre-sereis CS. It could have been a pre-series thrown together to test who know what and has nothing to do with a CS.
Just my 2 cents.

A production CS is certainly not so far, if you find one for sale.
The CS\GT currently for sale in Spain is a good opportunity.

For a high mileage needs a ground up restoration not really CS 928, the notion of what is it worth seems moot. If you don't want it for yourself to keep forever it will not be much of an investment regardless of the sales price given a more realistic than I think has been suggested restoration cost.

I think price has to be 150K euros or more for total rebuild to be worth it. Even when done somewhere else besides Porsche itself. ROW '78 0011 would make that but I don't think 0016 or any CS is there yet.

I removed it - needed to redact some information from it - will post the redacted version soon.

What paperwork must I have to export it from Germany and import it here? Total neophyte on this.

With the overall condition of this car, I would just list it as "parts".
I realize the car is older than 25 years, which simplifies the process.
But I believe it's even easier (cheaper too?) to import a batch of parts.
Then just reassemble it back into a car after it all gets over here...
