They are M8 with a 1.5mm pitch. They are short....10.5mm long. They are not cap screws, but a hex headed bolt with an integral washer......not ribbed. Grade 12.9.
One of the very few specifically made, special use bolts, on the vehicle.

Repaired an oil leak where the oil separator tube goes onto the oil pan today. I'm going to install the exhaust Tomorrow and I hope to fire the car Wednesday and check the pressures. Also doing final adjustment to timing belt service that I did just before the Trans started acting up

Today a close friend came by who owns a repair shop. He removed the broken subframe bolt for me. I replaced the bolt with a grade 10.9 bolt. I installed the exhaust and hooked up all the electronics. To finish the work session I put in the fluids. I did start the car but only to fill the transmission and get the levels correct. Now I have to check all the adjustments and pressures. Getting close. If I did this correct then in a few days I should be able to take a drive. Oh I did take the suggestion and replaced the torque bolts with grade 10.9 bolts with built in washer. Yes they are a discontinued part from Porsche but I was able to cross referenced them and got a correct grade and length.

It's been a busy few days at work. Well I missed something. When I put car in reverse it rolls in forward. No up shifting in forward gears. I am thinking that the base gasket I used might be part of the problem. I'm going to start there.

Had my transmission expert by today. We found a bad b2 band actuator seal and a valve in the valve body that was sticking. Hope that it shifts now. If not.... Out it comes again.

I bought a spare transmission for $100 with a known problem of not holding 4th gear. It would go into 4th gear sometimes, but near the end, it would only shift to third and never go to 4th gear. My plan was to have some fun and rebuild it myself some day. And have a cheap spare when mine eventually goes south.
But, every time I follow one of these threads, and the it winds up like this, it makes me scared ****less to even look at the thing........
My hats off to you for giving it a go. You seemed really thorough too. I fully expected it to work out for you. Please let us know what it was if you find out.....

I must be lucky or something. I fully rebuilt mine years ago without any issues and then had to go back in to replace a b2 band that broke (year later) and it still works without issues.

I dont mess with transmissions, especially auto boxes. I screw up enough small things that I have to do twice. But kudos for trying.
I pulled the 5 speed, crated it and sent it to Greg. Problem solved til the synchos wear out again in 80,000+ miles....
By that time I wont be able to climb out of it anymore.

Ok the Transmission is back in the body for the second time. Thank you Adrian from German Transmission from Phoenix for the help. He was very reasonable on his price and his service was great. He picked up and delivered the transmission for service. He found that the same Clutch drum I rebuilt was out of spec... probably the cause of the whole problem in the first place. Everything else was great. So this morning I arrived at work early to install the transmission. Next week I'll install the suspension and exhaust and get the car realigned. Seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
