Turbocharged 5-Speed 85 928s For Sale Soon
Hello everyone. I have a ’85 928 5-Speed (Black on Black) Turbo that I might be selling in the next few months. The car is located in Spring, TX. I’m a Porsche owner and enthusiast with a current collection of 5 P-Cars at my home and need to make room. I’ve recently invested over 20k in it. Not sure on asking price yet, would appreciate advice on this (more later); just putting the word out. Current mileage: 114,251. About 500 miles on it after engine rebuild and before install of rear-mounted turbo kit (by Boostlogic and Mark Robinson – Rennlist member). SharkTuned Performance Chip, fresh fluids, new clutch, master cylinder, motor mounts, upgraded brake pads, AC compressor rebuild, freshly machined Flywheel, etc., etc. It puts down 364 WHP and 445 wheel torque which a little over 510 wheel torque on a Dynojet dyno. Several 0-60 runs average ~3.0 seconds. Fast car, easily burns through tires. Important question I always ask: Why selling? I’m fortunate to have many toys, a full family and work life and can’t give this the attention it deserves. I’m not sure on asking price. The exterior could benefit from a fresh spray or like James Morrison has done on several (a wrap). Interior dash has a couple of cracks. Other than that in pretty good condition. This car was meant to be driven fast, not win Concours, although it does look fantastic accelerating past anyone… You can find several more pics as well as a few short videos to hear the power here: https://www.facebook.com/9SeriesPerformance
I’m not sure what to ask for and I’m not the hardcore negotiating type. I believe in fair deals and open to suggestions on asking prices. I'm a very active member in the Lone Star Region of PCA. Would love to help find her a great home for the right person and price.
Thank you for your thoughts.

As per rules? Really? Then report me and this post. I was asking for advice on cost. Rear mounted turbo kit, limited options on exhaust size, and thank you for your kind and thoughtful feedback. Ok, between 10k and 30k. Does that meet your desire for rules?

I'm not in the market but I suspect this will go very quickly for such a price.
Colin has a point - rules are rules. This is an automotive technical forum first, not eBay.
Please post a serious asking price. Following it with "obo" is allowed".

I haven't participated here in the past and perhaps I now understand why. Geez guys. I asked for help on if I were to sell, what should I ask. Price isn't a big thing for me. I may keep, I may sell. I was asking for advice. Thanks guys, really helped.

Modified cars are hard to value. Unfortunately, it's not legal in California, otherwise you'd have quite a lot bigger pool of buyers. I don't know the cost of the work done, but I'd guess an asking price of $15-20k would be reasonable (without lots of history, photos etc to judge by). You could start at $20k OBO.
I read this as a request for advice, rather than a "for sale" thread. There's not enough information for it to be a for sale thread IMO.

With any customization, the seller understands that they most likely will not recoup their investment. I'm also going to say with all the work done, $15-20k does seem reasonable. Would love to say more but honestly, base price for 928s aren't all that high even with those that have had a ton of work done. Adding a forced induction unit brings it around that $15-20k range which I think is prime for a car like this to sell. A low mileage, pristine version without modifications would command a bigger price I think.
Aside performance, everything with the car works right? AC, heater, power mirrors, seats, lights, alarm (if equipped), rear hatch, rear wiper, etc...?

SM: Why don't you have an auction on Ebay to gather info, as you say and find out what it's worth?? Oh, you have to pay for that. And they have a lot of rules.
With a modicum of finesse you could get what you want here, but you don't like it here (for free), except when you do.
GLWS, seriously, a rare car that is modified, needs the widest net possible, but you get a tonne of tire-kickers on CL, but I think you know that.
Sorry for the snark, but it just seems too obvious.

Hi, my first thoughts would be that you would need to list all that was done to the engine during the "rebuild", and list all that was done to the car, looks like you had the pod out. Was the TT ever touched, trans, would the car pass a track inspection?
Not saying that you built it for the track however both of mine will/have and that reflects in the overall street ability and soundness of a car.
Just to name some of the items as to pass a track inspection cars must have no leaks, 50% brake pads, good tires, no torn rubber boots, solid suspension parts, working safety equip, etc.
It's usually done at a Dealer and or an Indy, I think it's a solid selling point for a car of this type.
I'd start at 25k if she all is sorted out and all fresh running gear, but I'm biased
Really need more details w/ pics, if you just bolted up a Turbo and did some maintenance bits (brake pads?) then 20k may be high

Agree 100%. There is a well cared Pizza's old Supercharged 1986.5 going for about $13K or so. Granted, turbocharging costs more than Supercharging but not a huge amount in resale.

Guys,
Let's cut Mr. Galloway some slack. He recently purchased two 928's. One from a Rennlister who was going through an ugly divorce. He gave $500 over the asking price because he knew the seller needed cash to pay the attorney.
Although this is only his 6th post, he owns 5 different Porsches so its not like he's new to the world of Porsche, just the world of 928 and you did a great job of making him feel welcome.
Finally, he was asking for help! OK so maybe he shouldn't have said "For Sale Soon" but how many of you didn't make a single mistake in your first 100 posts.
I think some of you with 1000+ posts forget what it's like to be new or or what its like to ask for help.
Maybe you could keep that in mind the next time you answer someone who has less than 50 posts.
