I remember someone bought one of these 86.5s and they found the the front brakes were from an 85 and the S4 suspension was also swapped out,
happened a few years ago

Yeah, I recall a switcheroo on (from?) an S4 in San Diego, maybe?

I remember that.. it all stank.
edit: Found the thread.. "great deal s4 not so great deal"
My impression of the seller from his various posts was that he was of extremely dubious character - lots of "stories" which didn't add up.

Thank again!!
You guys are wonderful!
You guys are wonderful!
Sure!
M28.44 is the code for a 5 liter S3 32 valve engine, 292 hp at 5750 rpm, 10.1 compression.
A28.07 is the 4-speed automatic transmission, 2.20 ring and pinion gear.
C02 is a U.S. 49 states' emission spec.
Any 928 VIN with GS in the middle and a last 4 digits >1000 is an 86.5. That said, after 29 years, you want to make sure it's still wearing an S4 suspension....

If I can raise the funds for that '86.5, how can I tell if the brakes and suspension are the factory upgraded units? Thanks!

Nice looking '03, but it's an automatic. Hold out for a 6-speed, you'll need as much control over the available torque as possible. And ask whether it's had its IMS retrofit yet, it's coming due for that.
But I have no idea what the option codes are, I can only look up '80 to '95 928s. Sorry about that!

Thank you, Rob.
I bought it.
C 4 cab with hardtop. Leather interior, heated memory seats, glass in Conv top, tiptronic for the wifeypoo.
Bose, xenon bi whatever lights, 18 turbo wheels.
I like it.
Will spend the 2k to have Ln engineering IMS bearing installed at a well respected, practiced indy in denver area.
53 k miles.
Runs nice. Suspension front and rear bangs on small bumps. Probably needs shocks and or rubber parts. Steers good but wallows so that's why I am thinking shocks. Indy shop can tell me.
