I've ridden in Dinsdale's supercharged 6speed swap and it is stupid fast out the hole because of the better ratios. And Carl is not exaggerating the Getrag synchro smoothness.

Default Makiing the Speedo work on early 928's after the trans swap

Good information about the GPS pulse generator for the early cars:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/atm-5289

Download and read the operating instructions. Seems very simple and straight-forward.

Again, this is only to make the speedo work after the trans swap on 1990 and older cars. On 928's from about mid-90 and up, your speedometer will work as-is after the trans swap as it gets its signal comes from the ABS system.

Not all 928s with ABS use ABS sensors for wheel speed.
It is based off the year. I believe change over was 89, but it might have been later.

Agreed, I think the changeover was in '90, and there's a lot of heterogeneity within 1990- I think they were just using up leftover older parts. Only way to be sure is to look at the back of the diff...

I agree... I will correct my earlier post to be more accurate.

My point remains the same: if your 928 is relying on the pulse from the differential to drive the speedometer, it is not a insurmountable problem. We are not the only ones swapping in later transmissions into early cars.

The solution exists, is not expensive, and not hard to install or set up. Reading the reviews on the link is helpful.

Five new 6-speed rear cross-members heading to paint. These are all sold.

I am making up another batch of 5, and 2 of them are pre-sold also.

Carl I applaud your rear crossmember design. That is such a great idea not having to remove the rear suspension in doing a transmission repair. Have you given any thought for extending this product to cars that have stock transmissions?

No, I have not. I have a 3-piece engine cross-member that I thought was going to be a big hit - allows you to service oil pan gaskets and rod bearings without removing the front suspension. Works really well! But has sold only so-so. I would think that a 3-piece rear cross-member by itself would sell even lessfrequently.

Two cross-member/kits I am working on though: To convert the 4-speed automatic 928 to a 6-speed manual; and to convert the 4-speed automatic 928 to a 6-speed auto with paddle shifter.

Carl, I saw on your site the kit is specifically for the ZO6 manual transmission. You had mentioned above too that you are working on a kit to roll an auto 928 over to a 6L80E 6-speed auto. Will this kit work with the 4L60E 4-speed auto from the C5? Also, will the torque tube still have to be sent in for modification?

Which one is mine?
- yours was the 2nd one in that batch. Its in the powder-coat booth now.

do you paint or powder coat the steel parts?
The 3-piece crossmember is taken apart, and the center section is powder-coated in hard baked-on paint. Black.

You had mentioned above too that you are working on a kit to roll an auto 928 over to a 6L80E 6-speed auto. Will this kit work with the 4L60E 4-speed auto from the C5? Also, will the torque tube still have to be sent in for modification?
No, this particular kit will not be the right one for the 4L60E automatic. I have finished the research and preliminary work to for the 4L60E auto or the 6L80E auto into the 928. I have located everything I need including the shift controller for the electronic transmission. What I need now is to do it. I have a couple of "talkers" but nobody has pulled the trigger just yet. As to your last question: Yes, you will have to send in the 'corvette TT for modification. Even if I don't have to shorten it (and I am pretty sure I will) I have to weld on the adapter to make it bolt to the Porsche instead of Chevy bell housing.

So this 6 speed auto with my supercharger would be a good thing I am thinking.
