Default 928 Coolant

Hi all, I just did a search for the types of coolant to use in a 928. Beyond avoiding certain chemicals, I did not see many brands / products mentioned. Any thoughts on what is the best to use.

Last year I was on a quest to find the best coolant to use in a Ferrari 355 I was doing the 5 year "engine out" maintenance on. Except for some exotic brands not easily available in the US, the top recomendation was Mercedes coolant.

The only other coolant approved for Mercedes autos is G-05, which is made by Valvoline (who also makes the Mercedes coolant).

Interesting thread on the two:

Just looked it up, and it states "low silicates". Elsewhere, I had seen "no silicates" as the preferred option -- is this possible. Cut from product site below.

Opps, posted to quickly.

What about Porsche Brand Coolant, is there such a thing? My other car is a Toyota Sequoia, and the rec is to use only Toyota brand coolant with distilled water. I never spent much time researching whether this is truly the best option, but its worked for almost 100K so far. So I go with it.

Thoughts?

Thanks
Dave

Another vote for G-05. However I think that whatever you do, mixing with distilled water is the most important consideration. Give it a good flushing if you don't know what was in there, and avoid mixing brands or types.

Lots of folks here also add Water-Wetter.

And welcome!!

Mercedes enignes are also aluminum and I think some of are Alusil (like the 928). Reason why I have no worries using anything recomended for their engines.

NEVER use DEXCOOL.

Use G05 in your Porsche and Toyota coolant in your Toyota and only mix with distilled water

There have been suspected issues with gelling of the coolant when mixed, and with possible headgasket deterioration with Dex-Cool. I had some of that on a Ford with iron block, none with the 928 because it's never seen Dex-Cool.

The Zerex isn't as easy to find as the Prestone stuff. It may be that modern Dex-Cool formulations are better now. But the Zerex G-05 is a known good product, locally available here with a little shopping effort. Distilled water is a must. I also add Water Wetter.

Used Dex-cool for years in all my cars - I remember reading along time ago about issues with Dex-cool but it was rectified.
I mix 50/50 with distilled water .
Willing to listen to the reasons for not using it or are we going to get into a which is better oil type thread.

Thank you all. Appreciate the back.

When you do a flush, what do you all use? Some placed I have read about suggest a garden hose, but that does not sit well with me if trying to keep minerals out of the system with distilled.

Thanks
