Brendan,
For some people it's about the process, at least as much as the result. Anyone who has invested as much thought, time, and $$$$$ in ANYTHING will be looking for a new project if the old one ever gets finished. What would you dream about, work on, love, hate, and get as much satisfaction and frustration from if you didn't have your 928s? You buy a Z06, you drive it, it's serviced by Mr. Goodwrench, it's under warranty, it's powerful, yawn.

Yeah, I guess it was long. Its the motor from the 89. Coated pistons, crank scraper, MLS head gaskets, drilled crank, ARP studs, and 85S cams (that reminds me I have to call Elgin).
Powdercoated or polished or chromed everything. Megasquirt EFI. Vortech V-1. Its yet to be assembled, but its all ready and preped. Just need a long weekend or something. I couldn't sell that car when its done if I tried.

I had some pics up a few weeks ago regarding my black wheels.

I ask my wife sometimes if I look like I am having fun, and she says not really. Too many swears to tell. I think I have discovered that I like driving cars more then working on them.

I have taken 3 of those 4 928s that I have owned COMPLETELY apart. Down to the tub. All three. One was sold as parts, the second is this almost finished 78, and the third is this 89 that has an undecided future, and was my very first 928.

I have his most recent concert on VHS - should I watch it? I don't think being bi-sexual like he is will help me, but I can try if you think so.

You will really enjoy driving on the track. May I suggest Skip Barber ? The one day combo ought to get you hooked.

You really should drive the vette.

Someone would finish your 89 if you gave it away, but I suggest a years sabbatical.

BTW, I think if you finish the 89, boost it and go for fat tires all around, it would drive like a viper and very few street cars could keep up.

However; it would be a lot easier to turn it into a race car. a real pretty one that would be easy to build and or sell. In the meantime you ought to have something fun to drive that is just for driving.

Hang in there. There is no right answer to this riddle we call life.

Brendon,

hang in there and get that beast together.
Don't feel bad I poured 65k into a 1978 SC on top of a 16k purchase price. Could have bought a new Carrera-but did'nt want to be lumped in with the fat cat Wall st. crowd who buy new Porsches with their bonus money and know nothing about them or how to drive them.
Still a major bone of contention with the misses.

Good Luck
Rich

Bone of contention, in my case, is an understatment. She is the one that helped me move these TWO non-powered cars during our most recent move. One blown Acura MDX trans (from towing over limit) later.... Perfect color. I have never driven one of those.

Brendan, all you have to do is think back to that ride Mr Murphy gave you, close your eyes and feel it again. Now go finish that 78, and enjoy!!

Yes. The 78 will get done soon, when the engine gets together everything will speed up. A good long time with that car and not much to do except family and track time and tuning the EFI may shed some more light.

The 78 should be 3000lbs and about 500rwhp, so that should keep me busy for at least a while. As long as everything goes together well.

LOL! Brendan, I agree- the new stuff all seems to be "boutique". And, there is so much reliance on electro-nannies to keep the boutique babies from hurting themselves, that the cars don't have much personality... Go ahead, try and do a burnout in a 997, or anything else that could be a disaster if you lose it.. Key word being 'you'. All 'you' get to do is ride along safely in what might have been a really fun car. Yeah, you can still go fast, but it can make any ham-fisted numb nut look good, because you don't have to know how to control it. Nor can you learn by doing... it won't let you. I fully admit to being addicted to that ragged edge of control you get on a track, in car I prepared myself, am directly connected to, and does exaclty what I tell it to, even if I'm wrong. Uh, that happens more often than not. But that is the fun of it! As long as nobody gets hurt, it provides a feedback experience unlike anything else. Yes, the new Z06 is the best 60k you can spend right now, but its missing all that individuality and personality. I love my car, because it was so good to start with, and I am free to change it to my liking,(better or not, debateable). And spin, smoke, slide, skid, and loop till I'm too tired to steer. Gravel traps everywhere await. Boutique-ettes need not apply.
