Water pump identification
OK,
Just a quick question regarding the water pump.
Other than disassembly and inspection, is there any way to know if you have a 32mm or 46mm water pump roller?

Thanks,
Frank

if you are ordering a new pump/belt kit just get the late style with 46mm roller.
chances are by now it's been updated already. but to be sure, remove the upper timing belt cover - should take you about 5 minutes, there are only 7 bolts with 10mm head.

OK, I took the top timing cover off this morning but wanting to be sure I'm still confused.
Is the difference in the roller's OD or thickness?
The roller on the water pump at the moment is, as close as I can measure, 32mm thick but the OD is closer to 70mm across the anti derail flange that they have on the front. That flange seems to be approx 5mm deep so the "rough" OD of my existing pulley is 60mm.
Can you tell by looking?
here's a pic........
Also, how loose should it be on the belt? I'll try and post a vid. I can turn the pulley with one finger.

Hi,
The "roller" is the one off to the right in your picture.
the MM measurement is diameter - the 32mm is metal, what you have there is the later style 46mm plastic black one (with red/orange center bearing)
The other giveaway is the "belt guard plate" featured center of the photo held in place by that flange nut - that only comes with the late 46mm roller.

Spencer, you're a Gentleman and a Scholar!
Makes sense now. So it's not the water pump pulley 'roller', but the idler roller that's attached to the water pump. I never knew the water pump was so huge under all those belts so as mount another roller onto it.
Awesome, I'll now order the correct kit and later on the Arnworx tension tool.
Thanks again.
Frank.

See pics of the roller installed, as Mr rocket stated ,
Yep ... Ive done a few, make sure you change your thermostat while your in there and check the front seals and races . Late car as shown have large plastic roller / most older cars 1985 1/2 1986 down use a metal roller with no chrome bracket . if its in the budget always upgrade to larger roller style. ( early cars).

Are these 'races' behind each of the rollers?
And the seals, are they the seals in the bearings that are in the rollers?
Where's the 'O'ring on the crankshaft? Between the oil seal and the crank pulley?

There's 1 behind each balance shaft roller, and 1 behind the cam gear. There are no seals or anything behind the idlers and tensioners. The crank also has a "race" for the seal which also functions as the driver for the oil pump.

See balance shaft areas as well as exposed crank seal area, note crank shaft has 2 seals which includes 1 o ring, also shown tool to hold balance shaft gear in place to loosen as well as tighten. Dp951 (seals are directional)
