http://vdubengineering.com/uncategor...rly-944-front/

That site sells adapters to put Boxster calipers on front/rear of an early 944.

But if you do the Volvo thing...my offer stands!

OP is one of my best friends outside rennlist and Ive driven that car a few times...IIRC Vdub engineering was a s*** and the XSchop adapters were the golden ticket. Just bad customer service and *** dragging.

I'm still on board for the Volvo calipers

I have the Volvo brakes on mine. You want the ABS version, the other one requires way too much work.
You need to clearance the caliper slightly or the rotor will rub, but it's not much. I used a Dremel and a few of those little sanding drums to do it. Check the fitment frequently to avoid taking off any more than you have to, but they're steel and you're only removing a mm or so of material.

They bolt directly to the NA spindles and except for the required clearancing, are a straight swap. The factory brake lines may or may not work; I have aftermarket SS braided lines so I don't know for certain, but the threads are the same.

Overall, I noticed a moderate improvement in brake feel and have had no problems in the roughly 2 years and probably 8,000 miles put on since the swap.

SloMo, could you share more details on the clearancing? Which part has to be ground down?

Also - how did you handle the 2 input ports?

The part that needs clearancing is the inside "circumference" of the caliper. If it helps visualize the interference, another way of solving the problem would be turn the brake rotor on a lathe and reduce its outer diameter by a mm or two. You could possibly also slot the mounting holes to be able to position the caliper slight farther out radially from the hub.

The ABS version of the caliper has only one port, so no worries there.

Correct. Well, EBC Redstuff pads to be precise, but yes, sized for the Volvo calipers. They're pretty much the same size as the stock NA pads.

Just ordered the brake calipers, came to $137.49 shipped from Rock Auto. That's with the core charge and the 5% checkout code (easy to find on google). I decided to wait until I have the calipers before I order the pads, because I'm uncertain about the ABS/non-ABS differences and I'm curious to see if my NA pads are a direct swap, as per SloMo's post.

So, this is pretty much where the spending stops: it's well under $200 to get rebuilt 4 piston calipers and quality pads that bolt up, with very minor modification.

$34.70 each. I looked at getting calipers from a junkyard but the ones near me would want about $30 each after a core charge, and who knows what condition. I'd rather not spend the time to pull them, clean up, and rebuild. These are ready to roll, short of some red wrinkle paint and street performance pads

I have an '88 944 NA that someone put the rotors and calipers from a '94 968 (non M030 option). So I suppose you could do that too.

I like the setup because the fronts and rears use the same exact pads and they can be rotated front to back.
