Wilson: Dual Purpose Build.
Thought I'd start another thread on my 88 n/a car "Wilson", since old threads tend to be difficult to navigate through and find stuff.

This picture was taken yesterday (sunroof delete) and the beginning process of installing a positive air pressure device to stop dust from entering the cabin (a MAJOR problem for Wilson).

So I wasted time this week. I formed the aluminum sunroof delete panel & seam sealed & riveted it to the roof. I didn't want it to look flat, but rather embody the graceful lines of the 944 naturally has. The good news is that was successfully achieved & the result was something half the weight of the fibreglass oem sunroof (even after the mechanism is removed).
The idea recently is to install this vent:
The problem is however it changed the profile of the aluminum roof (made it flat). Sorry mate, but we can do better than that. For the time being I reinstalled the oem sunroof and will seal it in with seam seal (and maybe bondo). The reason why I'm not welding a steel panel to the roof is because I might install a full blown FIA approved cage and access will be appreciated.
-----
I wanted the vent to allow cooling to the occupants but I realized installing it in the front end of the cabin is a huge safety hazard. So it's in the back. And it'll serve it's purpose (to keep the dust out) but won't help cool up. GEEZ it's ugly. I see a lot of high level rallyists use this, but Porsche would never install something that looks like this to one of their cars. Pissed me off because I paid quite a lot of money for it because of duty & expensive shipping.
small note: I did test it on a gravel road where I normally taste/smell gravel dust by the end of the road when rippin', and I COULD NOT detect dust. So it helped!
Am thinking of something like this LANCIA 037 (Such a lovely machine mmmmmm.....) has on the quarter windows & since I'll be making some lexan windows, maybe there's other possibilities.

This to me is probably the most beautiful yet masculine of all cars. I think I shall incorporate some of the design features of it into Wilson.
Watch this. If you don't think it's incredible, then we have nothing to talk about.

Been putting a lot of thought into aerodynamics. Rally cars need downforce but their needs are different trackies because they also go sideways.
If Porsche included a pressurized vent for the cabin, I suspect it would look sexy... something like THIS!

The 037 is one gorgeous machine. If I had more money and less sense... Okay, maybe not so much the sense part, but more money...
I live down a bit of a gravel driveway. Just enough that if I don't want the exterior covered in dust, I have to creep my car down it as slowly as I can bear. Some days I want so badly just to mash the gas, and slide around a bit, but for better or worse I avoid it. I love the idea of a more or less dedicated dirt and gravel/hooliganism build. I'm curious to see where this goes...

Thank you for the positive words and support!

So the aluminum quarter windows. Why?
Well:
-aluminum can be lighter than glass (it is in this case).
-this can serve as a potential mounting place for fuel tank filler neck cap or... vent inlet or outlet.
The truth is I cannot see anything out of these windows anyway with seats & a roll bar.

I know, arguably worse than dust, but when you have a 200k+ car w/ crap paint? Possibly some of the most fun you can have w/ a 944. Take a look at my avatar for reference.
