Default Turbo oil Cooler on NA

Hi All

I have searched, and there are many threads on this topic, mostly from people considering the job or asking for advice, and all of which I have read are not concluded or the poster never posts their results/success, how they worked it out in the end.
I have a Turbo oil cooler housing, it came with the oil thermostat and 4 open ports, 2 of which are the oil lines obviously, one for the pressure sender and one must be for the OPRV.
Does anyone know if the early NA relief valve will fit the turbo housing?
Also the seal kits come with 2 green O-rings, 2 metal washers/shims + a black and clear plastic washers/rings. Anyone know what each of these are for and if they are required for what I am doing.
I intend to fit JIC port adapters and use aeroquip hose and fittings to an aftermarket cooler.
Thanks for your help

The 86 turbo cooler mount will work on an 82-86 NA block with the NA OPRV.
The 87+ turbo mount will only work on 87+ blocks.

Thanks Dimi

wouldnt you know, that is also the kind I have bought, but without the OPRV so I need either the earlier housing instead, or the late OPRV

How much for the OPRV?

Cheers

Hey V2 Rocket

How is your supercharger project coming along?

I have my supercharger bought, a short nose M90 from a jaguar. Getting started making a bracket up for it next week I hope.
Trying to get this external oil cooler under control and installed to help with the cooling.
Got some parts for a water injection set up gathered up too.
My only uncertainty is mapping, I had tried several times to get in touch with Joshua at Rogue, got an email back once but nothing further, I was going to use his NA MAF less tune as the starting point.
My latest research direction has been Megasquirt, as this will give great control an the possibility of sequential injection, launch control etc. It will be a steep learning curve also, which is something I have needed to go through to better my understanding of all the EFI stuff.

How are you going to do your Mapping/control?

I have an oil radiator and filter console from an '87 944 Turbo on my '87 944S, have had it there for many years. The pressure relief valve, as far as I know, is not specific to Turbo versus NA; it has to do with the car model year; see http://www.connactivity.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faqoc.html. I found myself running temps of 300 F at the track, and the radiator has kept temps no higher than 240 F, so a worthwhile thing to do.

If interested, I can provide some details of the installation procedure.

What's unique about the 87 and later blocks in this respect? I plan on doing the same thing, though it will be a while before I get a car running. I did notice the OPRV that came with the turbo-type oil filter console I obtained did not fit into the sleeve that's in my late 85 block. At the time I assumed I just have to get a hold of the correct OPRV. Is that not the case? Can I just machine the block to accept the later valve? The block is bare and will be going to the machine shop for boring and plating anyway.

Is there any reason why the three-piece valve is inferior to the one piece? Will it work with the late turbo oil cooler on the earlier block?

The sleeve thing is the difference, it's easier to just find the early style filter mount to fit your block than to try and machine it.
